Did any of their children have it? I know it was prevalent in European royal families at the time but can't see that in their children having just googled it.

Re: Poor Old Harry or Andy

The Hapsburg Jaw is a famous royal hereditary deformity spread by inbreeding. I do not know whether the Saxe-Coburg Gothas had problems, but the royal insistence on only marrying other royals seems a bit risky. Victoria and Albert were cousins and third cousins once removed. They had no problem wit...

Re: Poor Old Harry or Andy

The sooner this country wakes up to the fact we don’t need to be lorded over by the upper class, the better, I don’t wish them any harm but the French had the right idea. And just remember they are only there because their ancestors either murdered or slept with their cousins too get there. No Euro...

Re: Auferstanden aus Ruinen - we love Germany!

1989 is the year to remember now, Plus One! I was discomfited to read that the Polish regime recently urged the Germans to spend even more on 'defence' The Poles don't trust the Russians (would you?) and feel secure through NATO, if the French and maybe the underequipped Germans keep making noises ...

Re: Auferstanden aus Ruinen - we love Germany!

The state of the German Military Germany’s military has become a complete joke It can’t fulfil its role as a Nato member, let alone form the heart of a European defence force Glad to know Germany not the model of perfection it would like us to think it is? Has been living the fat life for too long?...

Re: Give up flying?

Well she's arrived. Already there's been a bit of controversy over the fact the return crew has flown out to the US to sail the yacht back. I'm genuinely curious as to how Greta is going to get back and secondly how she'll attend similar events in the future. The fact she's attending this event show...

Re: Give up flying?

Lycra? I just happened upon this bit of info, which I certainly didn't know! Lycra is apparently made by a company called Koch Industries, which has a pretty lousy environmental track record: And that's part of the issue with synthetic products. What's the most popular shoe at the moment, must be S...

Re: Bank holiday, are people mad

I'm off to the Sunderland Museum of Glass today. I'll report back just how terrible it was to see other people there..... Not spotted your report yet, I do hope you survived, is it not dangerous with so much glass? And expensive? What sort of visitors were there, and how many? Would you visi...

Re: Give up flying?

Most faux leathers for shoes derive from plastic and come with all the usual problems of the petro-chemical industry. It's recently been reported faux furs, which are similarly produced, cause more environmental problems than real fur even on a pro rata basis. What do you wear Ben? Right now nearly...

Re: Bank holiday, are people mad

Of course WW2, D-day, VE Day and VJ Day all belong to the political right wing, representing as they do the emphatic triumph of extreme right countries of the time over extreme left Sovietism... oh hang on a minute(!) ;) I'm not sure where genuine sentiment ends and sarcasm starts here but (with th...

Re: Bank holiday, are people mad

I have to say being autistic is not an excuse for the tone of the original post of this thread. isn't that a bit out of order? Like many others, I guess, I wonder why Skyhawk needs to include the word "autistic" in nearly every post (as well as on his sig line). But I don't have the right...

Re: Bank holiday, are people mad

I detect a serious meanness of spirit on this thread. Part of the popularity of BH weekends is being able to get away for three days, which is especially useful if your Mum/ Dad/ brother/ old school friend lives a five hour drive away. Yes the traffic might be appalling but three days makes a visit ...

Re: Give up flying?

Shoes? If you mean leather, we can definitely manage without that. Various textiles make quite a good shoe for most purposes (I think vegan DMs are available?!) I confess I do like a proper leather shoe though. Only worn for interviews/weddings/funerals mainly these days ... Most faux leathers for ...
