Bottom Bracket Compatability

My Dawes Galaxy currently has a Shimano UN55 bottom bracket fitted (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-bb-un55-bottom-bracket-british-thread/) Is it possible to replace the BB with one of the Hollowtech type BBs such as this one: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-deore-bb51-bottom-bracket-cup-set/ This w...

Servicing a bottom bracket

Is it possible (or advisable) to service the bearings in a Shimano 5700 105 bottom bracket?

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-105-570 ... t-cup-set/

At only £22 for a new one, it's not the end of the world if they're not serviceable.

Re: Which Bottom Bracket?

Update:

I went to my LBS this morning and purchased a Shimano UN55 68x110. I've just fitted and tested it and every thing's OK. :D

Thanks for all the input.

Re: Which Bottom Bracket?

Thanks very much for that meic. Very useful. The bit about the length of the taper was the hole in my knowledge!

The 68x110 UN54/UN55 it is then.

Thanks again :D

Re: Which Bottom Bracket?

OK, thanks for that meic. I'm running Spa's XD-2 cranks (http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b0s109p2004). Spa's website says: "Our own touring chainset based on the classic Sugino XD2 ... Require 110mm JIS square taper bottom bracket. eg Stronglight JP400". If the Specialites B...

Which Bottom Bracket?

I want to replace a Specialites T.A. Axix Light Pro Ti bottom bracket (68x110) with a cheaper Shimano BB. Will I be OK with the Shimano UN54/UN55? It's going in an old(ish) Dawes Galaxy (bottom bracket shell width 68mm).

Re: Compact to standard chainset

Thanks everyone. I've got a 105 compact (FC-5600) fitted at the moment. Presumably a 105 standard (52-39) will be compatible with the BB, as it's just the number of teeth on the rings that's different. The tech document for my 105 front mech (FD-5600) states a chain wheel tooth difference of 15 teet...

Compact to standard chainset

I'm toying with the idea of swapping the 50-34 compact chainset on my Trek 2.3 to a 52-39 (especially since chain reaction have a sale on them at the moment). Is this possible? I accept that I will have to adjust the height of the front mech and probably have to buy a new chain to provide the extra ...

Re: Clinchers: steel bead v folding

I've been using Conti GP4000S folders (23c) and Schwalbe extra light tubes on my road bike for the past two years and have had just one punc***e in all that time. They're lighter but more expensive than steel beads. The first time I fitted them, I couldn't believe how awkward they were to get on, fl...

Re: Clinchers: steel bead v folding

I've been running steel bead Conti Gatorskins (700x25) on my Galaxy for donkey's years. They get used for all year commuting, day rides, hauling the weekly shopping, running around town, etc. I swap the Gatorskins for Schwalbe Marathons (700x28) when I go touring. I'm about to replace the Contis and...

Clinchers: steel bead v folding

What are the advantages and disadvantages of folding and steel bead clincher tyres? I know folders are lighter - anything else?

Re: Personalised cycling tops

Thanks everyone for your input. I'd looked at Owayo and was quite impressed by what I saw - until I saw the premium for orders below 10 items (ouch!). Watt Custom looks pretty attractive - I'll look into them further.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Personalised cycling tops

Does anyone know where I can get a cycling top with my own design printed on it? I will only want 2-3 of these tops, so I don't know how feasible it will be to get them printed. Any ideas / suggestions?
