Pretty sure the neck gaiter works like a buff.
Wear it if your neck is cold and remove if not.
Think it's designed for dryish cold conditions. The care instructions would worry me if, like the last couple of months, it's wet and muddy!

Re: Winter motivation!
Not riding much. Every farmer appears to be either muck spreading, ploughing or hedge flailing. The roads are pretty awkward just now, and I feel a scared cat.

Re: Correlation and causation...
In a past life, I taught this stuff. A favourite session to invoke the causation conversation was to correlate sales of chewing gum with number of teenage pregnancies....this was in the early 80's
Strong positive correlation, and obviously pregnancy causes one to chew gum. Or vice versa

Ignore the distance....just focus on the incredible idea.
There's hope for me still!
Mind you....I get bored and tired after 15 mins on the turbo

Re: Speeding up a steel touring bike
Luckyluke says much of what I was going to post.
I rode the first 3 ridelondon events ....enormous fun.
My normal (!) average speed oans out at around 15mph.
I cruised the first 40 miles of ridelondon at 18 mph.
Closed roads, no traffic lights, and plenty of others around...although half the art of finishing is keeping clear of others. Riders of all abilities, hills cause chaos as folk get off and walk without awareness of others. Road trains ride, well, like idiots at times....trying to get a pb when there are so many others around.
Remember the London marathon footage? It's like that with bikes!
The bit about minimising stops is important if you want a good time ...loo queues!! Snack stops. 3 stops of 15 mins is 45 mins!
Oh....and don't get a puncture. You will witness loads. I felt so sorry for the guy with an upside down bike 200m after the start. And the guy at 98 miles.
And a last one.....guard your bike. There are loos in the start areas. While I was there a guy was shouting where's my bike gone... SWorks and local vermin.
Enjoy enjoy.

Really enjoyed your report....so many memories although we went from top down. Same issues with accommodation and food and the horribleness of some places. How do they survive?

Motorway (!) Signs that say stuff like 'A345 closed after B567' with no indication of whereabouts this is.

Re: Tyres,tubes,sizes
Walk a bit....yup
These hedges were over a distance of about 5 miles...not continous, and we're on narrow lanes with leaf litter. You couldn't see the debris coming, and were talking spiky stuff up to 4cm.long.
No worries though....chalk it down to experience.
Thanks for the tube helps people

Can I ask your help again people. Just when I thought I knew it all ha ha
Had a nightmare ride on Thursday, with Mrs OT
Riding beautiful lanes in southern lakes. Mr Farmer had been flailing hedges. 4 punctures. Ran out if tubes, co2 and patience. Taxi involved.
So...to the point. Replacing tubes and finding my bike is running 700x28. Mrs OT new bike is running 40x622.
Google says this is also a 700 tyre. (??). So are there tubes I can carry that will fit both bikes in the event of similar horror stories. Spoiled my 6000 miles without the p**** fairy
Thanks in advance

Ooh....get me going.
Let's start with this awful winter sunshine. Sun so low and hurting my eyes. Why can't they make it higher?
