Re: Evans and a £50 deposit

When deciding what bike to get last year I visited many many LBS's as I wanted to support independents. Everyone of them and I mean ALL OF THEM refused to get any bike I was considering buying unless I paid a 100% non-refundable deposit. There solution was to use Evans for the test rides and them fo...

Re: London - Hyde Park Cycling

a 10-12mph speed limit away from the main roads through the park (i.e. jogging speed),... Hmmm, some jogger. 12 mph equates to a world-class marathon time around 2hrs 10min  Good points though. I too have Borissed through the park recently. My main memory is of the number of tourists on Bori...

Re: Patagonia outdoor clothing

You might have to wait a while for a UK outlet as I noticed a few weeks ago that they'd quietly shut there flagship shop in Covent Garden, London.

Never been a huge fan and not 100% sure about there enviromental crudentials to be honest.

Helmet light

I've got an Exposure Diablo light on my handlebar but am toying with the idea of getting a helmet light as well. Lighting where I'm looking rather than going seems a good idea!

Is it worth while or a waste of money?

Just like the UK!

Needed some train tickets for Spain & France so did a bit of Googling to check if it was possible to get reasonably priced fares. It was!!! Popped into my local European train booking place and was told the minimum price for what I wanted to do was 60% odd more than I'd found on the Internet. Wo...

Re: Cafe & coffee

Weatherspoons seems to thrive on providing reasonable pub food, beverages and drinks at much better prices than can be found in the rip off coffee chains. Sorry if this comes across as argumentative because its not meant to be but Wethersppon's is a truly awful place. The kitchen equipment consists...

Re: Cafe & coffee

Its a great way to get back at these unwelcome tax avoiding scars on our high streets and railway stations The way that these companies are able to avoid Tax is by posting a loss or much much reduced profits. Seems to me that your antics are helping them. BTW Even the thought of Gregs makes me feel...

Re: More Dawes bashing?

Also, Ultergra hubs are 130 OLN road standard. Tourers use 135 MTB spec hubs. Anyway, aren't the hubs LX (which is 105 equivlent), so a little more than £60 a pair. The rack wasn't a Blackburn? Is Tubus cro-mo steel no good to you? You seem to be caught up on the 'mish mash' of components. S...

For those that know what, looking at the Ultra Galaxy would be a 'fair' price?

Re: More Dawes bashing?

Ultegra is very high end and expensive , why do you want that Seems the marketeers have got to you and you are more bothered about where the equipment is in the Shimano hierarchy rather than its functionality Your almost certainly right in my ignorance I'm being a bit of a bike snob. In my defense ...

Thanks, that's good to know as I was thinking of replacing my double with a triple on my commuter as I'd seen an Ultegra triple.

If there is a Tiagra triple is there a reason that Dawes don't use it?

Re: More Dawes bashing?

you would not want to use a F1 engine on a family car it would break down after a few 100 miles I'm not calling for a Dura-Ace Ultra Galaxy but what would be wrong with full Ultegra or even full 105 versions... Dawes are after all charging £1800. Are these group sets considered unreliable? And if n...

More Dawes bashing?

To cut a long story short I seriously looked at getting a Dawes Ultra Galaxy last year as my London commuter but ended up getting a genuine CX bike for about the same price as the more sporty geometry and lighter weight seemed more appropriate. Anyway, having now started to ride much longer distance...

deliberately and unnecessarily blocked the cycle lane If your way forward is blocked then surely you stop or go around..... hitting a stationary object seems a somewhat strange course of action. I wonder if the squeal of cycle brakes is relevant? I'll admit that the OP seems a complete idiot and th...

Re: Solo night ride

The best way is to upload a track and way points and not a route, To the way points add a proximety alarm, use these at Junctions where you need to take action. Proximety points you can set the notification to any distance you want I normally use 200 ft and add simple text such as turn right or mig...
