Quality looks equivalent to DA.
Dolan cycles stock them.
Just a thought.

Re: Help me spec my new bike

OP, if you are considering using Spa chainsets you might want to check if they will work with narrow 10/11-speed chains. I had an Impact triple from them which, when I tried to use it with a 9-speed chain, experienced the chain repeatedly falling between the middle and outer chainrings, causing los...

Re: Help me spec my new bike

if you want a 1:1 bottom gear it is not necessary to go supercompact at the front; R8000 ultegra will handle a 34T sprocket. cheers Thanks, that's the option I've spec'd at the moment, but to contradict myself on two points I see that Spa will allow me to go even lower (or is that higher, I can nev...

Help me spec my new bike

I'm looking to build up an Enigma Etape (rim) frame that I have for touring in the mountains. I want it to be fast and light for credit carding touring, things like the Raid Dolomites. I already have an Enigma Etape Disc with gravel wheels, puncture resistant tyres, a triple chain set, mudguards and...

Re: How much did your RTW trip cost?

I haven't done RTW but have done somewhere between 20 and 30 tours in different places around the world and read lots of books on the subject. I'd also recommend Alistair Humphreys books, blogs and social media pages In his last book he travelled through Spain with no money, inspired by Laurie Lee, ...

Re: Bristol to Bordeaux

I've cycled from Bath to Spain, and also Bath to Italy, I've also cycled Barcelona to Bordeaux Bath to Spain went via Bordeaux. I cycled to Poole, got the ferry to Cherbourg then followed the coast to Spain. It's very flat until you get to the Pyrenees, but you won't be going that far. Bath to Italy...

Re: Lap of Britain(ish) finished

If you are looking for a new target, might I suggest the British Cycle Quest. Had a look and my first thought was 'why would i want to do that?', then I noticed there were two points on tomorrow's route, then I looked at the questions, now I have to answer the question.......I guess that's called g...

Re: Booking trains in Italy

... any advice or experience on booking trains in Italy? ... I do suppose that you're travelling by bicycle. Yes, and No. I have cycled through all of these places on various trips: End to End of Italy, Coast to Coast of Italy and Pisa to Girona, but this time I'm going back with the wife, back pac...

Booking trains in Italy

Does anyone have any advice or experience on booking trains in Italy?

Specifically Pisa to Lucca, Lucca to Florence, Florence to Siena, Siena to Pisa

I've been on trainline and it looks pretty straight forward and cheap - do I need to book in advance or can I just turn up?

Re: Lap of Britain(ish) finished

Well done! Did you do it in one go? Over one year or several years? What bike did you use? pannier or bike backing? Cheers James It was done in chunks, lap of Wales, lap of Scotland, Lejog up the west coast, Edinburgh to Thames, Thames to Home Most of it was done on my Enigma Etape. It was all ligh...

Re: Lap of Britain(ish) finished

Excellent stuff and I too would be interested in what you consider the highlights. Though those from my touring have been the unexpected ones, that may not necessarily delight others as they have me, or even me on a different day. Did you initially set out to do this? Or was there a point where you...

Re: Lap of Britain(ish) finished

Onwards.. Per arda ad astra ...... , Quite. I just finished reading a book about endurance, and it had one of the simplest definition that I've read. It said Endurance is keeping going when you want to stop (paraphrased). Sometimes this was about advesity, overcoming and endurance, but more often i...
