Re: Clip in pedals
Depends whether you want to walk about when you get to where you're going. I use flat pedals with toe cages on all my bikes, don't see any benefit in clip-in pedals unless you're looking for marginal gains.

Excess calorie intake is only an issue for those who don't burn it off. I find it very annoying that it now seems to be impossible to buy, say, a bottle of orange squash without artificial sweeteners. It's the nanny state.

Re: Group riding
Why would you want to, regardless of coronavirus? One of the many advantages of cycling as a recreation is that it doesn't need to be done mob-handed.

Not just a problem on paths - this morning a woman wearing headphones & walking a dog stepped out into the road in front of me.

I hope you're wrong, but I fear you're (at least to quite a large degree) right.

Re: Falling on the road due to cycle path block
This type of accident can be serious. An incident occurred near where I live a few years ago, see https://beyondthekerb.org.uk/incident/2750/ and https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Clayton-2015-0388.pdf. Five years later and the road layout is still the same, and pedestrians still annoyingly walk along the cycle lane - though why they find it necessary to do so when there is a footpath on the other side of the (single lane) road is a mystery.

Re: UK Tricycle Riding
Question for you (and any other tricyclists for that matter) - why do you prefer a trike to a bike?

Re: Corona ride mishaps
Surprised to read on this thread of someone calling for assistance for a broken chain when only 8 miles from home. For one thing that's walking distance, at a pinch. And for any problems that don't involve an unusable wheel, you can average 7-8 mph just by scooting the bike along with your feet (you may need to lower your seat a bit).

Re: New to cycling... advice
Some dealers reduce the price of discontinued models when they want to bring in new stock, so that's worth looking out for or even asking about.

Re: Anyone found the roads less busy and/or motorists driving better?
Some of my usual country lane rides are becoming so crowded with cyclists that I have started using the main roads!

Nice thought, though most roads are pretty much devoid of traffic anyway at the moment.

What do you mean by "...stopping up some limited lanes..." ?
Good luck with this. I recommend you get someone to proofread it as the punctuation is not brilliant, and too many long paragraphs. Such things can reduce the impact.

Indeed, and in fact the original Government guidance (before Gove's suggestion) was to do your 'normal amount of exercise'.

How do you get home? Lock the bike and call a taxi? Perhaps not. Best to stay within a reasonable walking radius.
Under normal conditions you might have the option of using public transport to help you get home. That is severely restricted at the moment.
