Re: Humber Bridge closed to cyclists & pedestrians indefinitely
Here's an idea. Until the cycle path can safely re-open, why don't they put a 30mph limit on the bridge, and remove the 'no cycling' signs.
Or would that cause inconvenience to people?

Re: Farm Lane Compton Greenfield- Cycle works
I think some of these schemes are devised simply so that someone can tick a box (relating to provision for cyclists, or maybe environmental considerations) on their performance contract.

Re: Traffic lights giving cyclists a head start - Bristol
Yes, I can see how that might be useful. However the onus should really be on motorists to be aware when cyclists are filtering past.

Thanks for your replies, I have now prised it out with a screwdriver. It's a very tight fit!

How do you change the battery on this light?
Has anyone got (or had) one of these? My wife found it ages ago and has been using it as a torch until the power ran out. It's obviously quite old, as Amazon shows it as no longer available - see https://www.amazon.co.uk/Edinburgh-Bicy ... B00HEPH1H4. That's the only Google hit for 'Revolution light'. The front part (with the silver band) does not unscrew, only the rear part covering the power button. The only thing I can think of is levering out the plate at the back which has the power button on it, but am loath to do that in case I break something. (Tried removing the fitting bracket at the bottom but that didn't help).

Re: How to tackle restrictive gates / barriers
In this case it's done deliberately, you are not supposed to ride through them. It looks like there is a track of some kind coming in from the right, which could present a collision risk. There are many similar barriers on the Trans Pennine route around Lymm/Warrington area, where on a MTB you have to stop and turn the bars sideways in order to get the bike through. Some are there to protect road crossings, others where the track narrows and there is a risk of collision with pedestrians.

fastpedaller wrote:I agree it's probably best to avoid the case details. What I'd like to know is.... what is the definition of Wanton & Furious? Is it just based on speed, speed or pedalling (low gear users beware) or just witness statements. I've heard of witnesses stating "a cyclist was going about 30MPH, they can you know" when the truth may be close to 20MPH at most, a lot slower than motorised traffic.
Speed doesn't appear to be the issue in this case, it's the fact that he allegedly went through a red light.

I've had a similar thing where a handlebar mounted GPS device seemed to interfere with the signal to the wireless computer.

Agree with everything you wrote except the bit I've quoted. Pasta & rice can be just as healthy as spuds, maybe even more so if wholegrain. And olive oil is definitely better for you than lard!

Maybe because she spends too much time talking to people along the way! May not be the case if she can't speak Russian.

Had mine two days ago. Felt a bit grotty yesterday, though not enough to prevent me going out for a gentle ride. Fine today. I've had flu jabs in the past where the grottiness lasted for several days.

What on earth do they mean when they say it can be 'playfully folded'? A few things lost in translation here I think.

Re: Perfect winters day on the road
No snow here in Cheshire, but the wind has completely dried out the roads, so much so that I even had the summer bike out today in sub-zero temperatures.
