As said measure rims, also measure the hubs...................................or at least measure the hubs before you assemble wheel.

I only made that mistake once, the tables for hubs are produced by who?
IIRC the general public?

The hubs measurements are from his website but I'll hold off ordering the spokes until I have the hubs and rims in hand which should be about a week.

Re: Spoke length check

Front is a black Mack road
https://mackhubs.com/hubs/road/road-front/

Rear is a black Mack LF 130mm single fixed
https://mackhubs.com/hubs/track/low-flange-rear/

Rims are 46mm deep 28mm wide light bicycle carbon.
https://www.lightbicycle.com/Road-bicyc ... lable.html

Spokes will be Salim CX ray in either black or sliver. Thinking silver with black brass spokes.

Should save me about 500g on my current wheelset and be more aero. I'm having a go at LEJOGLE in 7 days on my fixed bike next June.

Spoke length check

Can someone check my numbers for spokes before I order?

Rim ERD 548

Rear is 24h 2 cross
Spoke drilling diameter – 42 mm
Hub center – flange center – 32.0 mm

Front is 20h radial
Spoke drilling diameter – 34 mm
Hub center – flange center – 37 mm

My numbers come out as
Rear 264.85mm
Front 258.54mm

You must be fitter &/or more bloody minded than me!

My cadence on the final hill home (the 250ft in 1/2 mile) drops to 60 & below with a 24" gear. For me that is well to the bottom end of comfortable - my last 2, fairly flat, rides average cadence was 88 & 90. Heading away from home I'm unlikely to not do 30+mph, sometimes 40+, freewheeling on the downhills.

It may be do-able on fixed but would I want to - for me, definitely no!

Stupidity explains most of it.

RickH wrote:I've enjoyed riding fixed on the Manchester Velodrome a few times (& once at the Glasgow one). I was going to do more but too much "life" got in the way. I may get back into it at some point.

Outside the velodrome I don't think it would work for me - to get to or from home entails going either up or down a hill that exceeds 20% in places. Down I get to around 25-30mph (limited by sight-lines), up is nearer 4mph where a 24" gear is welcome (& I occasionally wish for a lower one). If I'm coming home from a regular bike/train trip I've got about 1000ft of ascent to do - in 8 miles from Wigan or 15 from Newton-Le-Willows - with ~250ft in the last 1/2 mile.

Just checked Strava, my commute is on fixed and entails 1300ft of climbing in 10miles, this include something that is around 20% as well. It's doable as I do it 4 days a week.

alexnharvey wrote:Which hubs are you people using for fixed riding on the roads in the winter?

Dura ace 7710 but I wouldn't recommend it as I have to repack them constantly. I have some Mack hubs on order, over 200g lighter (f+r) and sealed bearings.

At least they are asking about changes now. Would have been nice before killing CTC without member consultation.

Re: Guess that aero tubeset

It's not meant for a velodrome. The BB drop is too much. Guess it was made for road use and this is how I intend to use it anyway.

I'm fairly sure the chainstays aren't Columbus max. The taper is really short.

Re: Guess that aero tubeset

I can't see any chainstays like that on a zero tubed bike or in any of their catalogues. Doesn't mean they didn't use a mix of tubes though.

Re: Guess that aero tubeset

Yes, that is the conclusion I came to, frame number is 0914.

Regarding tubing the fork weighs 618g and the frame is 1.646kg. Fairly good weights I think but nothing earth shattering.

Guess that aero tubeset

Hello,

Not been on here in a while due to moving. Now things have settled down inevertably another bike ended up on my doorstep.

It's a Corrado. Lovely, light with a paper thin downtube. I'm curious what the tubing is, maybe someone can help as it looks quite distinctive. The downtube looks like Columbus life to me but I don't know when Columbus started making that.

Here is an image from the seller but I'll put some more up later with some weights.
