Re: CEO's statement

A total disgrace, I feel as though I've been robbed. We are the CYCLISTS TOURING CLUB!

Re: It's all in the name - Cyclists' TOURING club

Okay Okay don't laugh but rumour has it that the NEW rebranded name for our beloved Cyclists Touring Club is.....(roll of drums)... CYCLING UK! Brilliant isn't it? All that time, all our membership money paid on consultants and it's CYCLING UK apparently. Not to be confused with CYCLE NATION or even...

Re: The direction of the CTC , yay or nay

We need to start referring to ourselves as 'the Cyclists Touring Club' instead of 'CTC' this would help send a message where needed. My local District Association (sorry Member Group) made a decision to promote and use the winged wheel in preference to the nasty cheap looking wobbly bike logo on run...

Re: Cycle Magazine

The magazine and our local Member Group (Sheffield District) are the two main reasons for joining as far as I'm concerned. However has anyone noticed that the latest edition does not carry our treasured winged wheel logo on the front?

Re: Rotherham week day rides?

Hi David, Julie, There is a very active group in Sheffield "sheffieldctc.org.uk" putting on three rides a week, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday during summer. Doncaster have a group also (details same website) holding rides every Sunday from Elmfield Park. There was a group in Rotherham up ...

Re: So - is 'refresh the brand'

"except for one line at the recent conference that the CTC name will change." Yes I think this is where the confirmation of rebranding originally came from. According to our MG Chairwoman who attended this conference, this was announced by our new CEO in London recently. I stated "Ru...

Re: So - is 'refresh the brand'

Word is out that the club is to rebrand with a new name but to appease the traditionalists, an updated 'winged wheel' will be the club logo. The club will place more emphasis on campaigning for cyclists. I know this is something totally different, but I can foresee another AFC Wimbledon not MK Dons ...

Re: Will York Rally ever make a comeback?

You have to admire the enthusiasm of the new York Rally Committee and wish the event every success. The CTC tried to turn the Rally into a Show, especially in 2000 when an inner perimeter fence was erected with security guards. As a result the event went downhill from that point onward and the reput...

Re: Matlock CTC - Members wanted

Hi Edwin, Sorry I am late replying to your question. No I do not ride with Derby CTC but I do ride with Sheffield CTC so am quite aware of the area you live in as we visit Cromford, Whatstandwell and other cafes near you. Several years ago Sheffield District CTC sent out a complimentary magazine to ...

Affiliated Groups and insurance

As a full member of the CTC for many years and actively involved with my local Member Group, I regularly try to convince many non CTC cycling friends to join. Some are in clubs that are affiliated to the CTC. They assume that they receive all the third party insurance benefits that a full member rec...

Re: L`Eroica Brittania

What a shame that L'Eroica Brittania and the reformed York Rally will be held on the same weekend in 2015 and with Bakewell and York being only 70 miles apart too. I only live one hour's ride from Bakewell but unfortunately the "call of the Rally" will be too great to resist so it is off t...

Re: The CTC - is it vulnerable?

Yes the CTC is vulnerable, but it doesn't have to be. British Cycling membership has now overtaken the CTC and stands at over 100,000, I think the CTC is stagnant at around 70,000. In my city the number has dropped from 963 in 2013 to 856 in 2014, in a year that the Tour de France had a stage finish...

Re: Sustrans - oh dear!

The best method I have heard for dealing with telephone chuggers or cold callers is to interrupt their babbling mid stream and say "Can you hang on a minute, I've just got to deal with something" Then leave them hanging on the other end of the phone whilst you make a cuppa or something. Co...

Re: It's all in the name - Cyclists' TOURING club

It is becoming more apparent that British Cycling with SKY money behind them and the T de F successes want to become all things cycling, which means treading on the CTC's toes. However the Cyclists Touring Club have one advantage over British Cycling that many regularly forget, the CTC have history ...

Re: Matlock CTC - Members wanted

Good Luck with the Informal Matlock Group. Could Derby Membership Group help you? There is a local group in Alfreton which I believe is also very successful.
