Re: Cycling to school for years, but children no longer happ

9, its about that age when I was only allowed to walk a certain distance near the school with the eldest. The youngest walked on his own and with friends from a younger age. It could be that they want to walk with friends and are beginning to feel left out. It could be that they are scared. But at 9...

Re: cycle touring & keeping medication cool

Do these sorts of cooling pack get cold enough http://www.physioroom.com/product/PhysioRoom.com_Instant_Ice_Pack/2009/37790.html I guess they will have a salt that undergoes an endothermic reaction in water so until you activate the pack it will be at room temperature and it is a convenient way to c...

Re: Accident Tue 7 Apr 18:00 Uddingston

Nope, that's the Keir roundabout! I hate it in a car, there's nothing like coming up the old A9 from Bridge of Allan and going around the Keir roundabout to the Dunblane turn off the B8033, which is dual carriageway , you come around the roundabout and spot the traffic heading south on the A9 toward...

Re: Tram takes bikes but only uphill!

Well the rack railway (it's not a tram) also only takes them from Marienplatz to Degerloch, you can't get off in between and the driver keeps an eye on the bikes as they go up to make sure they don't fall off (I've been on it, but not with a bike). You can take a bike down on the U bahn anyhow, or t...

Re: Lidl 6th April

I picked up two pairs yesterday, I want to introduce TOH to touring so these are ideal for hostel to hostel cycling for a night or two without a large investment.

Re: Stuttgart and Bratislava Airports with bikes

I haven't cycled from the airport but I do know the area as I used to live in Stuttgart (well I worked in Stuttgart, I lived in Fellbach, Stuttgart is like a collection of towns joined by green areas that have field roads, that only have farm traffic, running across them). It depends what you want t...

British Mountaineering Council Trek insurance possibly, you have to be a BMC member (I'm a MCS member).

Re: Better than baby wipes for showerless refresh?

I haven't tried them but you can get large 'bath in a bed' body wipes and rinse-free body washes for people who are bed-bound that you seem to be able to buy on the internet, I searched for wet wipes large and there were a number; they may be more effective.

Re: Using cycle paths

There is a narrow 40 mph road around here that is busy, so they put a cycle path on the pavement, but with no changes to the pavement, it is unsurfaced and narrow in places, too narrow. Anyhow there is a narrow access (it is unsurfaced I think, but looks firm) to a field or a structure part way down...

Re: Dazzling or Bright - where is the dividing line?

I think it's a little more complicated. A few years ago I started to have problems driving a car at night because the oncoming head lights dazzled me even if dipped. I went and talked to my optician and she said it was a common problem with modern headlights. Try searching for 'car headlights too br...

Cancer Research UK has a very good section on risk factors: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/type/bowel-cancer/about/risks/ If you read the bit about diet it points out that just because someone is a vegetarian doesn't mean that they have a good diet, I'm a vegetarian and we eat a well b...

Re: holiday recommendations for Germany

I think, though I'm not entirely convinced, that TOH will do Passau to Wien. I did look at a holiday that went around Stuttgart (as we lived there and I still work from an office there, though I live in Scotland, and so have friends). I also thought about going to Kitzbuhel and doing local cycles th...
