Re: New house - what green solution would you do?

We have double glazing, cavity wall, are south facing so get allot of sun to warm up the house, we can't do much more, such as solar panels, as we are 1 a half storey. Newish gas central heating, house is pretty warm in winter and we keep the temperature set on the heating at 19 C, 20 C if it's cold...

Re: Oats-so-pointless...?

Just ordered my 25 kg bag of Jumbo oats (we store it in boxes), £23.95 including delivery so well worth it. I put my oats in a box with water overnight then just microwave in the morning and eat with blueberries and damson butter. TOH is a traditionalist and uses a pan (he cleans it) and does it wit...

Re: Sea cruises: Why? Why not?

We stayed for a week on Orkney and we'd be bimbling around doing stuff taking our time and in some places a minibus would pull up, people would get out, the guide would find, for example, a Scottish primrose for them, they'd look at it (while standing on others), a few minutes later they'd get back ...

Re: N Plus X: how many cycles do you own?

2 (and I don't like one of them that much, think I need to play around with it, it's a wee bit too long in the reach department) but 4 of us in house and the others have one each so 5 in total, but I'd like a MT bike as well but can't get one because I decided too late and now can't get one due to l...

Re: Rehab, training, and fun on a kick scooter.

So here is a brief description of canicross, scootering and bikejoring, the dogs are very well cared for and trained (my dogs know their right and left, slow, and a few other commands), and can be all sizes not just big huskies, greysters, and eurohounds; small dogs can nip along quite quickly. Cani...

Re: Rehab, training, and fun on a kick scooter.

Kick bikes are quite popular in the canicross world, as a kind of bridge between canicross and bikejor, I haven't tried it yet, I've had the offer of the use of a kick bike and I'm sure Jess would be up for it (canicrossing with Jess is like being tied to a train), just too many crowds around at the...

Re: Protein sources

I have 2 sons that have been vegetarian from birth, and I did reading around it (a long time ago). So long as they eat a varied variety of food (and we do, all homemade lacto-ova vegetarian), protein has never been an issue. Iron (especially when they were very young) was a greater issue. Fortunate...

Re: Protein sources

As far as I understand, as wheat bran contains phytic acid this affects the bioavailability of minerals, such as iron, mangesium, zinc, and calcium. See https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3507301/, note the sponsorship at the bottom! I have 2 sons that have been vegetarian from birth, and ...

Re: New scam(s)

I had an extremely convincing Plusnet one about my 'new account'. It followed a genuine Plusnet email and the only difference was there was no link to the help desk at the top and it had a link to make my first payment. As I never, ever click on links in emails to make payments (but go the long way ...

Re: student cycles home...

If it got the dude all the way from Aberdeen to Greece, it's gotta be doing some good! I eat a lot of pea-nut butter - often in stir frys, often on toast, with the second slice of buttered toast usually covered with Marmite, but close tho' this puts me to eating them together, I do not want to take...

Not one I use here, but a favourite of mine to use
dogsposal unit
feeding the dog odds and ends, usually bits of veg or crumbs while preparing food
If you have a dog, you'll know what I mean!

Re: Incontinence underwear

It might be worth seeing a women's health physio, obviously you may know the cause of the incontinence, but they may be able to help with management, including a solution for when exercising.

Re: Scottish ferry news

On a practical level, if you fall ill with covid on one of the Scottish islands and need ICU, that's a helicopter trip to the mainland, so I think they will really not want an influx of visitors. They don't have the hospital provision to cope with a large number of very sick people.

H&M, sizes come up small apparently according to the very helpful male assistant in the store. (Was buying for a family member who was very happy with them.)
