Struie to be closed 1-5 Jul

Currently doing LEJOG. As we turned to go up the Struie today I noticed signs saying this road would be closed 1-5th July...in a couple of days! Don't know if it will still be possible to cycle. Thought anyone going that way might want to check. We enjoyed this route, didn't find it difficult. Also,...

Re: Weather app for North Scotland

A timely topic for me ...we're in Edinburgh having a layover day today. Weather for our 14 days so far has been gorgeous and sunny! Rain gear remains deep in the bags. I won't even look at Met Office reports; just before we started they had me so nervous with the "severe weather warnings" ...

Re: LEJOG start 8th June

Thanks, Simon. Our Ironbridge-Nantwich day is June 16th, after a layover day at Ironbridge. Hope we see you! Just read predictions of a big storm Saturday in the south of England. Hoping this doesn't come to pass!!

LEJOG start 8th June

The time is finally here - we leave home in a few hours to begin to make our way to London. Then the train to Penzance on the 7th, and cycle from Land's End on Sunday 8th June. I plan to be posting updates at http://crazyguyonabike.com/doc/2014LEJOG if my phone & wifi cooperate. Our's is a slow ...

Re: 18 day LEJOG completed - Wonderful!

Appreciate the information on the canal path - we leave it at Creech St. Michael, so won't have to worry about the grassy part. Sjgreen - did you end up taking the A396 from Tiverton to Bampton? I believe that was a stretch you were undecided about at one point. We're mostly on smaller roads just we...

Edinburgh - Water of Leith path & Union Canal

I’ve been reviewing our routes (LEJOG starting on 8 June), and realize I never got many details on two paths I have mapped into Edinburgh. I've developed a real obsession for the little orange "google-man" available on rwgps, and the resulting "street view". Sadly, he doesn't do ...

Glad to hear you had a wonderful time! Would love more details. What was the qualit of the surface on the canal path from Taunton?

Re: Travelodge & Hostel LEJOG, equipment?

A toothbrush

My list for our trip (starting 8 June) runs considerably longer, including bike lights, lock, first aid kit.... But we have three times as many riding days.

Re: Best mobile service provider for LEJOG?

Thanks for the replies - very useful information! I'll check on-line just before we leave for the specials at Tesco, Saintsbury and Carphone Warehouse and see what is offered.

Best mobile service provider for LEJOG?

Since we're coming from the USA, our current plan is to purchase an inexpensive mobile phone in London to which we can add minutes as we need them. Carphonewarehouse has been recomended on other sites I've looked at, but it appears there are multiple service providers we can choose from. Do some hav...

Re: A396 from Tiverton to Bampton

Don't know the answer; we're going to the west a bit on this route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4119188. We're on the A396 for about 1.3 miles beginning at mile 6.5; hope it's OK. I didn't know where Knightshayes was, and now that I've looked it up would really like to reroute to include the Natio...

Re: April 13 day Lejog (4 days to go!!!)

Are those orange boxes spare tubes? Do most people take that many (5)?? My husband & I were planning 2 each, plus patch kits, enough?
