Re: 14th July LeJog Blog?

Great question! I've used crazyguyonabike.com for a few of our previous trips, and will probably use that again for our June LEJOG, but would like to check out other alternatives, too.

Re: It's now or never ! (update gps advice needed)

I've got 21 days worth of routes in rwgps for our June Lejog and am planning to export as TCX files to my Garmin 810. I've done the routes this way for lots of local rides and for a 5 day tour (with 50-60 mi days) last week. It has worked just fine; I've not had to concern myself with numbers of poi...

Edinburgh - Is NCN 1 well marked?

Planning to use NCN 1 to get from our hotel near the center of Edinburgh out to the Forth Road Bridge. Can anyone tell me if this is well marked? Looks like MANY turns. My current file for his day is: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4118929 While I'm at it, we're coming into the city on the CTC B&...

Re: Success with London-Penzance train reservation

Seems to me that several months ago one of our group looked into flying back... but the bikes needed to be shipped separately and wouldn't make it back to London in time for our flight home. Did we miss a flight back that takes bikes??

Re: Route complete - comments??

I've been off on a 5 day tour here in Northern California - of course, it decided to rain much of the week, even with our drought conditions! Much needed rain-training, as well as plenty of hills. Now back to our routes... Moonboy, thanks for the Taunton Canal information; I've now got us taking the...

Re: Route complete - comments??

Jeremy, Just mapped your suggestions, thought NOT the A30 part. I have had that in mind for an alternate, but figure we can switch to that without needing the route in the gps. We'll have to ride this section twice, since we'll arrive by train in Penzance at 3:18 pm one day, bike to LE, and return t...

Re: CTC B&B route? Map or Garmin?

My answer would be take both, for all the reasons already mentioned. I've been working for nearly a year on the routes for four of us, starting 7June. I also started with the CTC B&B route, but soon started changing things around to cut the climbing and take into account the advice on this forum...

Success with London-Penzance train reservation

Just wanted to report that I was able to make reservations on the 10:06 out of London Paddington for Penzance on 7 June for 4 people and 4 bicycles! The train may not be running all the way through yet, but reservations are available. Never did solve the mystery of exactly how many days ahead cycle ...

Re: Route complete - comments??

Original poster here, finally checking back on the forum after lots of other committments (including lots of riding - and off on a 5 day tour this Monday!). cycloret - thanks for your list of OSM maps available - the UK ones I've downloaded are from garmin.openstreetmap.nl, and I think I'll just sti...

Re: Cheddar Gorge or Strawberry Line??

mjr - I've modified my route leaving the Strawberry Line to what you recommend, thanks! notlobgp14 - I've sent you a PM. mnichols - Love the Bath/Wells suggestion, I considered this earlier and decided against it. I'd "promised" my 3 "partners-in-crime" 50 mile days, and I exceed...

Thanks, Mick F - I've read lots of your posts, but missed this bit. I've updated my file to reflect the change.

Cheddar Gorge or Strawberry Line??

I've got this mapped two ways right now: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4177037 Glastonbury to Chepstow via Strawberry Line (55.9 mi +2261 ft) http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4119169 Glastonbury to Chepstow via Cheddar Gorge (55.2 + 3311 ft) Looks like I'll plan on the Strawberry Line route - only save...

Re: Route complete - comments??

Redvee - You're correct, we'll be passing through Bristol on June 12 - would be delighted to have a guide if you find yourself free that day! Will have to figure out how to contact you. Getting a phone (not a smart one, I don't think) for the UK is on my list of things to do... think we'll try to pi...

Re: Route complete - comments??

Thanks for the suggestions... After watching Redvee's video of the towpath on the S side of the Avon in Bristol, I'm definitely changing to the Portway on the other side of the river! If it's a gorgeous sunny day we can ignore the Garmin and follow the maps to the S side. I have been looking at cycl...
