Seeking comments on planned route

I’ve been working on routes for our June 2014 LEJOG. Below are the last 8 days of our ride, with links to the ridewithgps.com files. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. After posting the first days of our plan a month or so ago, I incorporated lots of good suggestions. I’m still planning the ...

Re: April 2014 13 day Lejog (UPDATE - thoughts on shap)

Hi RedEyeJedi - Like you I'm planning a 2014 LEJOG (for 4 of us, each more than twice your age!). We've done lots of cycle touring, but this will be our biggest challenge by far. I'm using ridewithgps to plan routes for use on my Garmin 810, and like it better than the other sites I've tried. Not pe...

Re: my 1st jogle, if i did it..you can too!

Glad you had such a good trip! Can you tell me more about your Lake District "excursion"? I'm working on the LEJOG route for 4 of us in June, 2014, and hope to go through the Lakes. So far I've done our route from Lands End to Ironbridge, and from Edinburgh to JOG. Just need to fill in the...

Re: Comments on these A road sections?

SJXT, your blog is one I have read and bookmarked. Thanks for sharing so much information. Just looked again, and noticed how impressively low your daily elevation gains are. Because we want to cross the Severn Bridge, visit Ironbridge Gorge, and hadn't considered the western route through Scotland,...

Re: Comments on these A road sections?

My link for Day 1 Lands End to Newquay is incorrect, as dai_t75 pointed out. It should be: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3566798. I'll look carefully at the suggestions, thanks very much. I've been avoiding Google Earth or Street View because I've found them more confusing than helpful in the past, ...

Comments on these A road sections?

I’m leaning toward using the LEJOG route in Lonely Planet Cycling Britain for our ride in June 2014. This route does have more miles on “A” roads than the CTC B&B route, though it is still mostly on “B” roads and lanes. It has considerably less elevation gain, Lands End to Chepstow, if the route...

Re: Through the Lake District

Thanks for the very helpful replies - the forum is a fabulous source of information! The ferry across Windemere looks like a great idea, and we'll definitely keep the Lakes in our plan. I'll be studying all our options carefully, and probably will have lots more questions before next June! Hope to h...

Through the Lake District

I’m just starting to get serious about route planning for a LEJOG for four of us from California. We booked our airline tickets to and from London last night for June 4 to July 5, 2014, so this is really going to happen! It’s early, but to get the best Frequent Flier mile deals, you have to book wel...

Re: Comments on CTC B&B Route?

Thanks, Rob. I've read quite a lot on your web site and appreciate it very much! There are so many possible routes, and yet I haven't read any trip reports from those who have just ridden the CTC B&B route as it is given (or at least close to it). While I do love playing with maps and reading bl...

Comments on CTC B&B Route?

I'm just beginning to look at LEJOG route possibilities for four of us from the USA for July 2014. I have the CTC packet in hand and have been reading quite a lot here and other places on the internet. Does anyone just follow the CTC B&B route as written? There seem to be endless possibilities f...
