Re: Disc brake disappointment

I've recently fitted a BB7 to the front of my tourer. At first the performance was dreadful but after a hundred miles or so it is vastly improved. Give it a bit of time.

Re: How to get from Ullapool

I took the train to Glasgow and cycled with an overnight stop to Oban. From Ullapool I cycled to Inverness and got the train back from there. No car involved.

Re: Tent pegs

The problem with titanium ones is that of you leave one or two behind at the site you are mightily brassed off because of the cost. Go aluminium. That why you won't waste half an hour every day hunting round checking you haven't left any behind.

Re: What does "Front chainwheel tooth difference" mean

I think it's the max difference between the biggest and smallest that the derailleur can handle. I'm sure someone else will be along soon to confirm or rebut this.

Re: Cheap powder coating

I have used Greenspeed in Macclesfield twice (Google them). Cost was £35 for sand blasting and powder coating the frame and forks. Turn round in a week. Choosing the colour is like choosing your wall colour at home, you are given a booklet with hundreds of colours and shades on. I went for a bright ...

Re: lon las cymru in 4 days?

Llanidloes to Caernarfon in one day is pushing it a bit. You would end up going along the coast road past Harlech to make up the time and you'd miss out the hills above Harlech (one of the best bits of the whole ride IMO). Slow down a bit, and look around you, that's what touring is about.

Re: SKS Germany Mudguard Fitting Instructions

I would suggest not fitting th eend caps as per the instructions. Put the fittings together without them and you'll probably have a length of stay sticking out. Mark the stay at the length you want it, take it apart, cut with a hacksaw, then refit and fit the end caps at the end (using just the part...

You have perhaps realised I mean Golden Valley instead of Happy Valley. That is just something I call it to my pals, a bit of an in joke.

Re: Mid shires favourite?

Anywhere in that area is good, just look at a map and choose minor roads. You could start at Chepstow on the Lon Las Cymru, go through Abergavenny over Gospel Pass to Hay on Wye, then return down Happy Valley towards Monmouth. Or just potter round the Forest of Dean itself. You can't go far wrong in...
