Re: Peterloo Massacre

Yes it is the 200th anniversary of a truly disgusting day and indeed period of out history, not to mention the covering up by the government afterwards of what went on. Some would say we live in more enlightened and freer times, some of us would disagree . That was before ordinary people voted, befo...

Re: is this you?

It was me a couple of years ago, on a country road, although at first sight the flood didn't appear to be anything like so deep. It looked as if, as long as I went through slowly, the water shouldn't quite come up over the bottom bracket. Wrong! Not only the bottom bracket, the hubs as well. By then...

Re: Ouch Sheared Cassette Freehub (Cheapo)

Hi, There was no washer on mine in pics (steel)? I have another identical hub somewhere will have a look. As you say there are many designs of these. I found that these copy hubs do need more axle adjustment than shimano. if the axle bearings were loose would this add more loading to the freehub mo...

Re: Ouch Sheared Cassette Freehub (Cheapo)

Thanks for the warnings - I'll be careful to follow your instructions if I try using a vice. I've had one for a while, just never mounted it, and it would be a shame to wreck it. Either that or I'll just stick with the bodge I used before, although I think a socket Allen bit would be better - it wou...

Re: Ouch Sheared Cassette Freehub (Cheapo)

You do that job by putting the allen key in a vice and turn the wheel. :D I've got a vice now, I didn't then, I just need to mount it to a bench that won't turn (and hope the Allen key doesn't break like it did with the mechanic at Halfords, although the one I've got is good quality, Unior brand), ...

Re: Ouch Sheared Cassette Freehub (Cheapo)

Trouble is, now that I know it wasn't just a freaky one-off, I'm worried about it happening again and me getting stranded in the back of beyond! :( IMHO it is as good as a freaky one-off; there must be millions of these hubs out there and if this failure were at all common then it would be better k...

Re: Ouch Sheared Cassette Freehub (Cheapo)

The 'long story short' above was that I trawled the 'net for hours on end trying to find a replacement, ordering two or three freehub bodies which had to be returned because they looked the same (one was even branded Quando, same as the hub) but had the wrong threading, until eventually I did the ob...

Re: Ouch Sheared Cassette Freehub (Cheapo)

Well, Brucey's seen two break like that now - I had exactly the same failure on the Quando hub of my 2014 Carrera Subway: DSC00019.JPG DSC00020.JPG DSC00023.JPG The hub had done only around 1,000 miles when it happened and has now done close to 10 times that without (touch wood) any further issues. ...

Re: Rebecca Twigg

I was lucky in that I qualified as a Radiographer so had a civilian equivalence, and found a job relatively easily. Also, there was a fair amount of contact with civilian bodies and organisations - so I was in many ways sheltered in my transition I do however know others wh have spent 22 years in t...

Might he just be that ignorant? Oh, he's as ignorant as get out, no question, but he's sly - he knows damn well that she wasn't married to her brother, but not refuting it is pandering to his base, who are ignorant in ways that you and I and most of the rest of the crowd on here couldn't even begin...

Re: Is Trump Mad?

Trump is living proof that what we generally consider "intelligence" or "cleverness" is not required to be financially successful. He says (and presumably thinks) the (Americanism) dumbest things, but he has built an impressive business empire and got elected to the top job. Or ...
