Re: Is Trump Mad?

Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, the only one of the four congresswomen who wasn't born in America, has been a US citizen for six years longer than Melania Trump... Omar became a citizen in 2000 at the age of 17, while Melania Trump became a citizen six years later at the age of 36, a year after she ma...

Re: Is Trump Mad?

In case anyone missed it, Trump described himself in a tweet last week as "so great looking and smart, a true Stable Genius!" He also 'kidded' about serving 14 more years. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-twitter-tweets-elizabeth-warren-nervous-skinny-pre...

Re: Tory leader - place your bets

What happened in a nutshell is that our Ambassodor has been proven to be somewhat lax with security and confidentiality. What he really thought about Trump and Co. was an unintentional back stab. Trump replied as only he can with zero upfront diplomacy. After several hours of heroic stoic silence D...

Re: Marathon HS368 1.75" 26"

I think I probably just avoided the cycle path more this year - there are alternatives, although they're longer and hillier, but I still used it fairly often, ran into thorns if I didn't see them soon enough and pulled them out before they penetrated. Previously by that time it was already too late ...

Re: Marathon HS368 1.75" 26"

Fair enough. 'Special' is the polite word for my situation. The cycle path has been there for about five years now and the problem hasn't been resolved. We need to trace/collar the tractor driver who cuts the hedges but that hasn't happened yet, then if he won't see about sweeping up the thorns, the...

Re: Marathon HS368 1.75" 26"

Sorry to be a killjoy but I would be wary of K-Guard. It sounds good - Kevlar - high-tec - but it's quite well below RaceGuard, the next step up in Schwalbe's pecking order, by some way, IME, in puncture protection. I got 55 mm Big Apples with K-Guard for a steal at SJS and I had more punctures with...

Just in case anyone didn't believe the above (tbh I didn't either)... "He also discussed U.S. accomplishments, from Alexander Graham Bell and the telephone to the Wright Brothers and the airplane." https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/07/04/independence-day-donald-trump-plans-s...

Re: Is Trump Mad?

Don't have confirmation of this yet but I have it on good authority that in his (currently ongoing) 4th July celebrations speech, Trump just referred to Alexander Graham Bell as 'one of the great Americans'. To be fair, he might have been referring to another Alexander Graham Bell; the one I know of...

Found this on Jan Heine's 'Off the Beaten Path' blog:

Not really, otherwise you could just have stronger spokes in bigger wheels.

But is a shorter spoke of the same gauge not stronger? Not arguing, I just always thought it was.

Re: Can disc brakes lock up while cycling?

The safety release clip alexnharvey referred to is on SKS mudguards, not sure about the rest - if you look closely at the front mudguards in the link below you'll see them. They're just clipped into the ends of the metal stays so if you get a stick or stone or whatever else caught between the tyre a...

Re: Wheels for big guys

Fairly sure 26" wheels are strongest, but don't know how much. In terms of just riding along, it goes inversely with the separation of the spokes at the rim, so a 36 spoke 700C wheel is about the same strength as a 32 spoke 26" wheel, but not as strong as a 36 spoke 26" wheel. If you...

Re: Tory leader - place your bets

With 160,000 Tories voting between a choice of two weevils, it will be very interesting to learn: How many don't vote (?) How many ballot papers end up spoilt (?) It doesn't really many which of the two complete duffers gets the PM job, it won't end well regardless :| I'm sure I heard on the radio ...

Re: Wheels for big guys

woody - what size wheels does your mountain bike have - 26" ( 559 ), 27.5" ( 584 , aka 650B) or 29" ( 622 , aka 700c)? The underlined numbers will be on the tyre sidewalls if you don't know. Brucey - would that make much difference? Fairly sure 26" wheels are strongest, but don't...

Re: Loose seatpost - Spa Aubisque frameset

Ah, right, I didn't look at the specs closely enough. I bookmarked the clamp a while ago when I was looking at carbon seatposts slipping in carbon frames. I was 'thinking' (still am, probably always will be!) of going for a Chinese open mold carbon frameset and that was an issue which occasionally c...
