Re: Loose seatpost - Spa Aubisque frameset

Would this be the solution, Samuel? seatpost double clamp.jpg https://www.rosebikes.co.uk/xtreme-wcr-double-clamp-seat-tube-clamp-255005?product_shape=black&article_size=31%2C8%2F27%2C2mm It's pricey but I think it's clever and quite elegant (not just for carbon posts - also aluminium - and ther...

Re: Tory leader - place your bets

John Crace in The Guardian - brilliant writing, I thought. You really need to read the whole thing, it's too good to just quote from, but... But how can we trust you, asked Mike from Littlehampton. You were rubbish as London mayor and rubbish as foreign secretary. “Um... er... wiffle... waffle...,” ...

Re: Where have all the helmets gone....?

Are the handlebars wider than normal? It's the fashion these days. Back in the day - and I still believe this - handlebars were the same width as your shoulder bones. My Moulton came with wide ones, and I sold them and bought narrower. Much better! :D This photo always makes me smile but I suppose ...

Re: Inner Tube Blow Outs

Is it safe to use a 50mm tyre on a 19mm rim? I do - both my Carrera Subways came with that - it's safe enough, especially given that (or maybe even if only because) the tyres are run at ~42 psi front, ~47 psi rear, and that's allowing for the bikes sometimes being laden. They still roll fast at the...

Like you I don't have a TV so I've never seen The Handmaid's Tale but it gave me chills when I heard the track on the radio.

because of Blondie's popularity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahGxiSV_LH0&frags=pl%2Cwn .......... and when we talk, it feels like Paradise .............. Not Heart of Glass but heart of stone - the Tories - but for anyone who hasn't heard this (it was used in an episode of The Handmaid's Tal...

Re: Abandoned holiday - RyanAir terms and conditions

Politeness, civility, a recognition that in front of me was someone over whom I had no power found favour, as did me showing the stamps in my passport, quoting much other relevant and irrelevant information about flights to Great Inagua (few, infrequent) allied to a slightly dishevelled appearance ...

Re: Shimano SIS outer.

I've seen all sorts, including bikes which were (from new) cabled up with parallel strand reinforced outer in the gear runs except for the loop to the RD. I've mentioned this before but jagwire make stepped ferrules that allow 5.0mm housing to fit into cable stops that also have a 5.0mm diameter. B...

Re: Bojo's bike.

You could even say Corbyn looks just like a TdF cyclist - if you took away the stem riser and slammed the stem - given the fact that his bike is about three sizes too small. He's clearly not very bright. Anyone sensible riding to the same place of work every day leaves their lock there to avoid carr...

Re: Shimano SIS outer.

I have a cable outer that is printed SIS but is spiral wound. I assumed that SIS printed outers would just be for gear shifting. Usually indexing gear outers are parallel wired - right or wrong ? I bought SIS cable outers from the LBS that turned out to be spiral wound. It was for restoring an earl...

Re: Abandoned holiday - RyanAir terms and conditions

Worth bearing in mind that the quote upthread is from a professional pilot – their job is to reduce risk to vanishing point. As cycle tourists, we might be OK with a one-in-a-thousand risk – i.e. 99.9% sure of the bike getting there. But to an airline pilot, that's a completely unacceptable level o...
