Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

Well it has been almost a year since I got my ICD and what an interesting year it has been. The ICD has saved my life twice, where I literally would have dropped dead if I hadn't had it. The latest episode was only about three weeks ago. I've undergone quite a few tests in the year one of which was ...

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

A bit of feedback from me as well. I'm now 3 months post ICD install. I'm almost 43 years old now. I've been cycling quite a bit including occasional commutes through central London. If anything will fray your nerves, cycling in London will but hasn't. I'm not a extreme a cyclist as a lot of you wit...

Re: Things you've never done

I've never said never. But what I'd like to do that I have not; 1, Learn a foreign language. 2, Learn to play an instrument. 3, Buy an old camper van, strap the bikes to it and tour Europe. 4, Buy an old camper van, strap the bikes to it and tour North America. For 3 & 4, the Wife has no interes...

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

Great post Mr T and good positive feedback. The polar HR device, is it one your using with a chest band sensor or is it one of the ones you have to touch as I'm quite interested in what my max HR gets to. Another bit of feedback from me 2 weeks and 1 day post surgery; just got back from quite a vigo...

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

Fantastic response David. There is so little information about these things other than the 'textbooks'. These devices are American made and so are the textbooks. Because of the nature of what these devices have to do, the textbooks are written in a very conservative manner regarding cautions and no ...

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

No doctor, unless they to have one of these devices fitted can provide answers to the question of what is it like to live with one of these things. I've searched and searched for more information about what it is actually like living with ones of these things at my age in my circumstances, to no ava...

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

Michael42. With respect(and on reading your text),I think you're wrong. The more info you have, the better you're informed. You just can't get enough information. No one person,no one hospital,no one specialist has the one true answer. You compare, analyse, evaluate etc. You may then know the right qu...

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

Gents, Never meant for this to become heated. I'm simply looking for others who share the ICD experience. And to that end, this forum was unique in so far as on the whole of the web, it had someone, which is brilliant. He has also responded to the resurrection of this thread which is even better. An...

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

David, replied and many thanks. I went out on a short but hilly 4 miler with the dog running behind. Felt great during and after. I'm supposed to be taking it easy though, recovering from surgery, late night, have had a few beers, been out on the bike... Self destructive behavior level = idiot :roll...

Re: Medical issues and VAT exemption on bikes.

I'd be very interested in this if anyone could definitive on it. See this thread; http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47805 Which I've recently added to. The gist of it is "Anyone got an implanted cardioverter defibrillator" . As having one of these means a 6 month driving ban,...

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

Brilliant, thanks for the replies Gents. I've got a Boston Scientific Energen F142, which is a Cardioverter and Defib machine. Hopefully it will remain dormant for the next 5-7 years. Still a bit sore from the surgery but today I have been pootling about in the garage making my Giant hybrid into a c...

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

Just bumping this up, cheeky for a 2nd post I know.

Looks like the OP and others posters when this thread was live have not visited this forum for some time.

Bumping it up really to see if there are any current members who may happen to have an ICD ?

Re: IMPLANTED CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATORS.

What a coincidence. I've been separately browsing this forum with the intention of joining and at the same time browsing for information about cycling with an ICD. Well, I'm only 42 and had a duel lead Boston Scientific gadget fitted just last week. As mentioned above in this thread, there is a 6 mo...
