Re: Deore five arm cranks, PCD?
If it has an inner ring of 22 teeth the bolt circle diameters are likely to be 94mm/58mm
For example : Deore LX FC-M563, the measurements are stated at the top of the parts list.
https://si.shimano.com/en/pdfs/ev/FC-M5 ... S-1387.pdf
If you know the part number of the your cranks (stamped on the rear of the crank) you can just look it up here in the Shimano tech documents to be certain :-https://si.shimano.com/en/#/
Good luck

You just saved yourself a tenner, nice one !
Here are the correct ones for aluminium frames, they are just flat on the back side.

Re: Who's had the vaccine?
Thanks for the timely reminder about the Shingles vaccine, I qualify in a couple of weeks. I had it on my arm when I was in my 20's and that was bad enough, I've no desire to repeat the experience. I seem to recall that I was told at the time that the face was the most intensely painful place to get it.
Paulatic, I wish you a good recovery from your current symptoms.

Re: Early STI shifter won’t shift.
There's a post by Brucey with photo's in the 'too good to lose' section showing how to get access to the pawls etc in these early shifters.
Encouragingly subtitled 'not quite so horrifying inside after all'.

Good luck.

There's a couple of descriptive sentences as good as any photo's.Cowsham wrote: ↑29 Jan 2024, 11:35pm
Wished I'd had been able to take a few photos though.
I saw a man in a dress, hair up in a bun with a leaf blower clearing the path I'm usually on of all the thorns from the recently cut hedge. I thanked him as I passed on the road.
I also saw a Seagull laying dead on the side of the road but not squashed or damaged in any way. Looks like it just died and fell straight out of the sky laying on it's side like a cartoon bird asleep.

Re: English cycles Range Rider
A page full of '584' tyres here in varying widths and styles, I think these come under the catch-all description of 650B nowadays, you'll find plenty under that search description as well no doubt :-PWDF wrote: ↑28 Jan 2024, 2:03pm I have an English Range Rider. I bought it in 1984 whilst I was a student in Leeds, it was 2nd hand but only just! I love this bike, great riding position, grips on the handlebars and the light weight front which at the time was revolutionary (as were mountain bikes for that matter!).
The front tyre still the original believe it or not… a Speed - Hakkapeliitta 54 - 584 (26 x 2 - 1 1/2). I’m looking to replace the back tyre (which was replaced with something else many years ago. I can’t find that tyre online… presume it no longer exists? Anyone know what I can use instead?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Riding in Wellingtons / Wellies
I had some Derri Boots for motorbike riding in the seventies they looked pretty much like this as I recall (except with a smoother sole and black), very light, comfortable and waterproof. They had the padded lace cuff at the top of the boot and the welt around the top of the shoe part as the picture below. Made from a soft plastic in the shoe part.

Re: Rob english style detachable rear triangle?
Whilst looking for something else, I came across some information about the 'Thorn' folder pictured up-thread. There is an article about it on pages 82-83 in issue number three of Encycleopedia (1996) - here on the Issuu site.
https://issuu.com/encycleopedia/docs/enc03_opt2
From the article; it was designed by Malcolm Parry and called the D.O.G. (Demountable Orthodox Geometry) and production was stated to be underway by St John Street Cycles (SJS and now Thorn of course).
I did a search and found the patent application, here :-https://patentimages.storage.googleapis ... 96224A.pdf
The whole Encycleopedia magazine is worth a read, full of recumbents, folders etc from the mid-nineties period.
