Re: Responsive bike with clearance for fat tyres?

I now see that 'planing', in the Bicycle Quarterly parlance, is something I have always taken for granted and that I miss! Steve Hi, I wouldn't be so hasty. The third rider in the double blind test couldn't tell any difference. BQ says the diffrence is small, and the first two riders were attuned t...

Re: Them self sealing inner tubes?

Why don't you think they'll work after 12 months? Hi, What makes you think that they will still work after 12 months ? How do you think they work ? Unless some magic is involved they work by reacting to air, and what do tyres contain ? The slime will solidify over time, it has to, to be able to wor...

Re: Them self sealing inner tubes?

Sorry, got to disagree completely! I've had no 'life' problems with slimed tubes, been on some of my bikes for years. What 'stats' are you talking about? Why would they only fix one puncture, think about it, it makes no sense. Taken tubes out with numerous 'scabs' on, with barely a drop in pressure...

Re: Shwalbe Lugano tyres?

Hi. IMO most reviews are unfair, nearly all new bikes, with riders more used to better tyres. Cheaper bikes come with much worse tyres. The Luganos are a nice budget tyre. No new bike generally comes with premium tyres. That they come with lots of decent bikes implies they are one of the best budget...

Re: Them self sealing inner tubes?

but then so is slime tubes? and so people with such tyres never get punctures? Hi, Pay your money, take your choice. Slime tubes are useless after about 6 months I think, but would be great for a 1 month tour. I have puncture protected tyres and luckily (probably) have never had a puncture since I ...

Hi,

Your making excuses for basic nonsense ?
And reccomending it ?

In fig2 i've never seen such a ludicrous set of photos
to illustrate something that clearly doesn't happen.

Re: Compact bars why

Hi, Compact bars are due to brifters. Just looking at modern bikes its obvious. http://fcdn.mtbr.com/attachments/fat-bikes/700382d1338418667-drop-bar-brifters-mx3.jpg How not to do it. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wq84xwSBa04/T1yPOtPTIpI/AAAAAAAABLs/2ftW-JAyHIY/s400/IMG_2403.JPG More how to do it. rgds...

Hi, I've never seen a test set up so ludicrously biased towards recumbants, rgds, sreten.

It's comphrehensively insulting your intelligence on so many levels its ridiculous.

Re: Them self sealing inner tubes?

hi,

Tyre liners are a waste of time with puncture protected tyres,
which basically incorporate tyre liners, far more effectively.

PPT's IMO are the way to go.

I can't see the point of anything smaller if 32mm's fit.

Re: Rim Sizes

Hi,

Forget 650C, (or 650c), 650B is the latest size to hit the market.
And the only one likely to stick it out long run as an oversized
MTB rim and an undersized road bike rim.

MTB= 559mm, 650B= 584mm.

Re: SADDLE HEIGHT..please try the "bump test"

I don't disagree with you entirely, far from it. But all you can do is set up for the 'steady state' , and this is an upthrust centred somewhere near the pedal on the downstroke, not the BB spindle. cheers Hi, I'd argue steady state bimbling along the upthrust is near the spindle, and only somebody...

Re: SADDLE HEIGHT..please try the "bump test"

Note also that checking for balance using the method you suggest makes no allowance for the net torque on the body which comes as a result of the true pedalling action; your method would only be accurate if you always pushed down on both pedals at once, and IME, no-one does that. The only true way ...

Re: How much air to put in tyres ?

Just got new tyres and on them for inflation it says 40-100 psi and don't really understand. My last tyres said 40-60 and I always inflated to 50, for now I have done the same and they feel fine. Should I be putting more in ? They are Marathon tyres on a 20" wheel and am around 17 stone. Dave ...
