Try a 7am shop in Tesco,Castle Douglas,a totally stress free experience .Virtually empty, however,it would mean moving a few hundred miles north.peetee wrote: ↑20 Dec 2019, 3:44pm Seeing the chaos in the local Tesco car park and the amount of people returning to their cars with one or two bags of shopping. Lots of people looking stressed and angry where peace and courtesy and a healthy walk would be a viable option. "It's the same every year" I thought as I walked away into relative tranquility and, for the first time in ages, the sun on my face, a great view over the hills of distant Penwith and dreams of riding out there in the new year.

It would be helpful to know the diameter of your downtube.Although matching the curve is the ideal,it,s not that crucial.Your main problem may be the lowest point of derraileur cage fouling the downtube .

Re: When did a bike refurb get so tech and expensive?
Currently swapping all the running gear from a "gravel" build ,60yr old steel frame onto a 10yr old "hybrid",aluminium frame.....why? The hybrid has a higher front end.The point is ,on these 7 and 9spd bikes, rim brakes, wheels and most of the other running gear is a straight swop.Impossible with modern 11,12...speed...etc.etc Keep it simple.

Can I ask what shape you need that isn,t already out there ?If you include U.S.A. the shapes are many and varied.Due to old injuries,I,ve a setup from parts bought off the net.Even adjustable bar ends, mounted inboard of brake levers has been a permanent addition to my road/off road bikes, flat bars of course.

Must have been a good summer...nice tan.Mick F wrote: ↑19 Mar 2024, 7:17pm Not got it any more, but before I bought my Mercian frame, I had a Raleigh Clubman.
We were living in Alexandria near Balloch on the southern shore of Loch Lomond.
I rode every working day the 14 miles each way to Clyde Submarine Base .............. no, I wasn't a submariner, but a technician working in the Communication Centre on the cryptography equipment.
Bought the Clubman from Dales Cycles in Glasgow in 1984.
£170 if my memory serves me correctly.
Here I am riding it in Portsmouth New Hampshire in summer 1986.

Re: Fitting Shimano Cues U 4010 40/ 29 Chainset
This sounds familiar to me as an aging rider. The main issue you may come across is lowering the front mech to the best location for smooth shifting i.e.a few mm above the large chainring. Two issues.....a band on mech may foul the frame tube or the mech is mounted via a brazed on fitting with slots which may not allow you to mount the mech low enough for smooth changing.Note that I said smooth changing....it may change ok ,suck it and see, there may be a greater chance of the chain unshipping outwards.I,m sure there mast be front mechs with shorter arms out there, yours may already be one.You may have to shorten the chain a few links.

I find it difficult to let go of whole bikes.I,ve got frames from many years ago hanging in the garage and occasionally find a niche for them as the mood takes me;sometimes I just fancy a change....bit of a tart really.Nearholmer wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 3:38pm 2021, so three years.
I don’t hang on to bikes once they’re no longer a “main ride”, I give them away, so only have two at a time, but I can’t be called an habitual short-termer, because when I find a bike that works well for me, and it doesn’t get stolen, I keep it as a main ride for a long time, 25 years in one case.
