Oldest bike

What,s the oldest bike you,re still riding?I,ll kick off with an Italian "Maurizio",mid-early sixties, repurposed as a "gravel" bike as I don,t want yet another bike and its a nice ride.

Re: New 1 inch carbon forks for Italian steel frame

Both my older frames,a 1970,s 531 Mercian and a 1960,s Italian frame will take 35mm tyres. My best suggestion would be a set of quality steel forks from this era which used 27" wheels.Your 700c wheels are a bit smaller allowing the larger size tyres to be used.

Re: Where can I get a cleaning brush

For a deep clean,I,ll remove the chain, put into a container with white spirit, agitate energetically,do it again with fresh stuff, wipe clean, hang up and....set fire to it

I'll go to your funeral if you go to mine.
I would point out the average cost of a funeral will hit the £5 k mark in the 10-40 years. When we on this forum on avearge will pop our clogs.
I am going to opt for the CHEAPEST and greenest solution.
I am going to be ecologically and be COMPOSTED.Waste money on a funeral.Bah! I could come back as a tree.

Re: Old tourists

As I guessed, quite a variation in mileage/abilities but what shines out is the desire to just cycle whatever folks abilities may be at that point in their lives......chapeau.

Old tourists

How old is too old for touring?Did a five month tour 51yrs ago when I was 20.Still biking happily but unable to tour for other reasons. So,any 70 pluses still touring?Mileage? Silly question in some ways,I know, more curiosity.

Re: Replacing fully concealed cables

My most reliable "fit and forget" cable setup on my fleet is a continuous outer cable with no breaks, secured with dedicated fittings on the outside of frame members on a full suspn. off roader, the complete opposite of your setup .Running cables through holes in a frame doesn,t strike me as a great idea .You,ve got got to seal entry/exit points I,m assuming?Maybe not,so that water can escape ? Someone will know.No use for you at all I,m afraid.....merely an observation .

Re: Coloured toe straps

Firstly, decide what colour. Then select your chosen animal.....cow,pig,sheep,deer,alligator.Then wait until your animal dies, naturally of course ,then.......well,you know the script.Alternatively,go on line and buy a nylon one. Zefal -Christophe.....£ 8-00

Re: Are there any modern cranksets that aren't goppingly awful?

I can only comment on my experience of old style bearings which appear to last longer. Also, square taper cranksets are a lot cheaper than most 2 piece designs.

Most cranksets can be improved with a course of drillium.

Of course, any weight lost/performance gain offset by increased turbulence around the drill holes I think :?:
