Many thanks for all the replies, you've all done well in putting me off the 23's or even 25's. I'll stick with 28's I think and perhaps go with the gatorskins.
I never really thought about the surfaces, for the most part its not bad but there are a couple if rough roads which wouldn't treat a thinner tyre too well with 16 stone and fully loaded Bergen bouncing on em !!

Hi, I have had my Specialized Citrus Elite for 12 months, I only use it for commuting on road for 13 mile per day. I have the original Nimbus Flackjacket 28mm. I need some replacements due to damage but wanted to go with maybe 23's ?
Would this work on the rims and can anyone recommend a good tyre ?
