Re: Kick Stands for a loaded bike????

Edvardus wrote:I liked the look of the Pletscher alloy single leg but got one almost identical to it from Wilkinson would you believe! And only £3.99 compared to £9.99 at Halfords, which was the next dearest. It fits easily in the space behind the bottom bracket. My (hybrid) space already had a flange with a hole in it.

You'll be ok until you put any serious weight on it. When it snaps and your preciuos bike falls over and scratches you will realize why that kickstand only cost £3.99!. That said the Halfords £9.99 one is no better! Pletcher stands are in a totally different class and worth the extra cash!

The ESGE brand has been owned and produced by Pletscher for many year now. The model on your bike is the new ZOOM model. This is produced in 3 versions

Comp Zoom (As used on your bike) that bolts directly onto a plate welded onto the frame
Zoom center stand that fits behind the BB
Multi Zoom that clamps to the seat & chainstay

Ditribution as follows:

Pletscher also produce some really nice single leg stands that are far stronger than the Savage.

Hi There

Wildoo Limited is the UK agent for Pletscher.

Pletscher produces a special plate for disc brakes so that any of their carriers can be mounted to bikes with disc brakes.

A range of the carriers and the plate can be purchased from us. They are currently not on our website but please email for pricing and vailability.

We are the UK agents for Rigida and can advise the following:

The Andra 30 is a special rim developed by Rigida with extra material on the inside of the rim. This enables the rim to be drilled to the same angle that the spoke enters the rim so that when the wheel is tensioned the spoke line remains straight and does not bend and weaken the spoke. This also ensures that the nipple will not pull through the rim and cause premature rim failure.

When St John Street Cycles saw this rim they immeadiately saw it as the solution for the acute spoke angles that lacing Rohloff hubs into 26" MTB rims causes. St John Street and Rigida co-operated to develop a version of Andra 30 drilled especialy for Rohloff.

At present this rim is only available in the UK from St John Street so please contact them. I would suggest that you ask them to build the wheel for you as their wheelbuilder has the experience to ensure that it is correctly built.

If you have any other questions please contact me: andy@wildoo.co.uk

About 15 years back the Motobecane brand was dropped in in favour of the shortened MBK brand name. The brand is quite strong in its native France as they also have a Moped division (also MBK). The bikes are excellent quality but I'm not sure if there is a UK distributor so if you had a warrenty issue you could have problems.

Try Rigida Sputnik rims (From Spa Cycles). They are have a super strong box section and ultra reliable. Another nice feature is the deep braking surface.

Rigida Nova has been replaced with the Flyer that definately does have an internal safety line that appears as the rim wears to warn the rider that the rim must be replaced. If I recall correctly the Nova also had safety line inside the rim section.

Thanks. Is there any way of knowing (from the text on the rim perhaps) if there is an indicator in there?

I agree that they will need changing soon, but I don't enjoy building wheels and inexpensive 650C wheels are difficult to come by!

I have checked and Nova does have a safety line. However if you can see the rim is worn I would replace the rim before the safety line appears. BTW Nova was only produced in 700C (622)
