Re: Does anyone know some good routes in Mallorca?

Last year I had very good service from Pro Cycle hire in Puerto Pollensa. Further to my earlier post... I've just returned from another family holiday in Puerto Pollenca (we liked it so much last time!), and this time we hired bikes from Go2Cycling in the town. Just as good a recommendation for the...

Re: Horse Riders

[ You were dead right. Horses can reverse 'under orders' with a rider on board, but only slowly and one step at a time. And it requires a bit of training, surprisingly enough. (It's called 'rein-back'). If a horse is going backwards at any speed, that's going to be the horse's decision not the ride...

Re: Horse Riders

The best advice I ever received regarding horses, from a cycling perspective, (and from a very keen horse riding family member - MickF has probably cycled past her countless times over the years... ), is to call out with a friendly hello, good morning - or whatever, when approaching from behi...

Re: Driverless Cars - New Requirements

[Ultimately though manual driving will be a misnomer - it'll be 'human assisted' driving. We're part way there now with all the electronic systems we have in place. As more technologies arrive the driver will become more of an irrelevance. Agreed. Good grief. Just imagine, they might be replacing p...

Re: Why wireless?

I have three bikes. I bought a wireless computer for my dream bike (a Mercian) when I got it, simply because it looks a bit neater. The other bikes, one of which is newer than the Mercian have wired. Wireless is Cateye, and the others are a Sigma and an (older) Halfords basic model. No complaints wi...

Re: Does anyone know some good routes in Mallorca?

I might try some of these routes too but I need to rent a bike any suggestions? Last year I had very good service from Pro Cycle hire in Puerto Pollensa. Please note I was on a family, non cycling, holiday, and hired bikes for a couple of days for some gentle meandering - not that subsequently goin...

Alias Smith & Jones anyone?

I've just noticed ITV4 are showing Alias Smith and Jones (The cowboys, not Mel and Griff alas...) at 1800 on weekdays. A wonderful blast of nostalgia for me. Fond memories of enjoying this show as a youngster in the 1970s, - which I haven't seen since. Great stuff. I think I may be representative of...

Re: Tour de France

FWIW my experience of over 25 years of Tour watching on TV and one solitary visit to last year's Tour of Britain I have to question the wisdom of staking a viewpoint on hill/mountain sections at all. Or perhaps I'm just a miserable git? I think you make a very good point. On two occasions I have vi...

Re: Teatime Teaser - are you allowed to cycle down this road

Once upon a time I was involved in training people for the IAM Advanced test. We occassionally had briefings from the local examiners (Police). At a couple of sessions the comment came up about the presence of contradictory signs and what would happen about them in the test. Typically this related t...

Re: Panaracer Pasela TG - to fit, or not to fit??

I know the Pasela debate has been an ongoing theme, especially regarding concerns over sidewall issues - and I myself have contibuted to that with my own sidewall failure experience. I ride Pasela TGs 700x28, amber sidewalls, on an Audax bike. However I thought I should update with a more recent, po...

Re: Mid life cycle crisis?

I made of point of treating myself to a Mercian for a certain birthday. Several years on, still very happy. It was an excellent decision. Enjoy the experience. Martin - you're not going to get a new bike wet , are you? That reminds me of when I collected the Mercian. A 40 mile ride home awaited but ...

Re: Comfortable ladies bike

Further to mentions of Dawes :D and Pendleton bikes, Raleigh Pioneer 1 (Stepthrough) is within the same budget. (The 18 gears could be a bit overwhelming though?). Pioneers have been going for ages and are a good budget bike. http://www.raleigh.co.uk/ProductType/ProductRange/Product/Default.aspx?pc=...

Re: Where I saw a link to HISTORICAL OS MAPS?

I like the Cassini series, released over the last few years. They are on the same projection and scale as the the current 1:50,000 Landranger and so enable direct comparisons - for those of us who still use printed versions  .

Bike lock competition winner

For info. Anyone seen this? I remember there being a debate on here about the competition? Well this seems to be the winner. Given where and when I ride bike security is not a huge issue for me so I'll let others debate the pros and cons. http://www.biklox.com/ I saw an article in Cycling World of a...
