Re: Daytime running lights

I have recently aquired a 2013 Citroen. De activating the daytime running lights was easy - via a couple of menu set up screens. I was pleased with that because like many of us on here - I don't like the things! I believe it is now law that they are fitted to new cars, although deactivation is obvio...

Re: Speeding...

Hi Sorry, elsewhere in the thread the policy had been criticised (helmets, segregation), so I was endeavouring to put the record straight on that matter - IMO the majority of the policies are clearly commendable. Regarding Members' attitudes, yep they are human and you meet some intolerant ones, or ...

Re: Speeding...

Thanks for the prompts, and ease of reference with links. So I've read the policy - and indeed there are bits I don't agree with. (re Helmets and segregation) However the same policy also includes the following (which amazingly no one has mentioned yet?) Adult cycle training should be widely availab...

Re: Speeding...

I think it is a shame when the IAM get generally criticised on this forum. ... I am an IAM member. Cool. Have you tried to get the pro-segregation pro-helmet cycle policy reversed or at least neutralised? The reason why IAM get generally criticised sometimes is because they attack cycling so...

Re: Speeding...

At my previous employer, I tried to get them to offer advanced driving courses and periodic awareness type refresher courses to everyone who had a company car. I put together a business case that showed it would save money on reduced insurance. They told me I was wasting my time. You may wan...

Re: Speeding...

Good video. Reminded me a bit of this offering from Gwent Police. (Albeit about texting rather than speeding) Warning - it's rather graphic, but as I believe Gwent Police pointed out at the time, - it's what they have to deal with all too often and represents the reality of things going wrong - in a...

Re: Blindingly bright rear light

I have to admit that night cycling for me is relatively rare, although certainly not unkown - and I ought to do more. When I do, I happily rely on B&M Ixon and Toplights and/or Topeak or Cateye flashers. (Different bikes have a different set up, and it depends on where I'm riding). I do drive a ...

Re: banned with my bike from daughter's school

Try this? By all accounts it seems to be serving a purpose and putting the record straight here and there when it comes to things being blamed on "Elf and Safety". It is also apparently set up to allow ease of access/contact for the public (not that I've tried it myself). http://www.hse.go...

Re: SKS Germany Mudguard Fitting Instructions

A thread elsewhere about SKS guards reminded me to post this compliment. Last Sunday I had a thumping great stick get caught in my front chromoplastic SKS guard. In a second this fouled up the whole works, with the safety fixings both deploying. For that split second it was all quite dramatic. The m...

Re: More visible cycle jersey

Racing shirts can be a right old mixture of colours and as others have mentioned, I sometimes worry about them having the effect of "dazzle camouflage" that can actually make you harder to spot from a distance as the rider's human shape can be completely broken up. http://en.wikipedia.org/...

Re: Narrow touring tyres

+1 for Panaracer Pasela TGs. I think this tyre is a very good compromise between weight (low), tread (minimal - but some), puncture resistance (good) and price (sensible). There has been some legitimate debate on this forum about the strength of the sidewalls (weight saving here?), but I continue to...

Re: Are people who attend church above the law?

In defence of people who attend church... On a (very) rare visit to the area, the other day I arrived at Portchester Caste at around 1815 and was delighted to find the outer bailey still open to have a wander around. The English Heritage staff had left for the day, and the site was only open ...

Rohan Tailwind Jacket

I know Rohan clothing occasionally gets a mention on here, and I for one am a longstanding and very satisfied customer. I notice their sale area currently has the Tailwind windproof jacket discounted to £55, and apparently available in all sizes. Nice colour too - rather more understated than cycle ...

Re: Whatever happened to Nicole Cooke

I write this as a leisure cyclist who keeps an eye on the racing scene, rather than a racing fanatic! (Either on the road or in an armchair.) It seemed to me that in the last few interviews I saw with Nicole Cooke that she sounded very disillusioned with the sport, particularly in the wake of the Ar...

Re: Lament of the missing phone boxes

I posted a little while back, asking who was responsible for maintaining phone boxes, - unfortunately no one seemed able to throw any light on the subject. The reason for the question was that I regularly notice pristine, lovely looking villages marred somewhat by tired looking phone boxes badly in ...
