You need to ensure that the straddle is not sharply peaked upwards when the brakes are under full power. You will have almost no leverage.

ideally wire should be at most at 90 degrees to the levers. if the wire is almost at 180 degrees there is no leverage at all.

The reason they're comfortable is because they flex. It's not softness but flexibility that makes saddles comfortable.

Did Bealach na Ba a few years ago into a gale. Hardest climb I've ever done (because of wind maybe). I've done Tourmalet and all those. Applecross Inn was super. Coast road very lumpy.
