Re: Flat tyre

They say (and I listen to THEM) that you should NEVER inflate a tube you've just fixed, except in the tyre. I never do. I imagine that your post-fixing checking caused the problem. You should leave a tube 24 hrs, according to the experts before trying that.

Re: How to Ride LE to JOG

There's more to it than the risk however.
Cycling on a quiet country road is MUCH more enjoyable to me than a main road. Always has been.

Re: Cycling to JOG via Fort William and numb hands

Numb hand is usually carpal tunnel syndrome which affects the median nerve in the flexor retinaculum which is a compartment in the wrist, The cause is pressure on the base of the hand. Thick gloves or too much padding CAN cause it, though some people get it independently of cycling. I've only ever g...

Re: Which frame material?

Titanium has the reputation of breaking among cycling manufacturers. The problem is the welds. My friend's titanium frame was a sorry sight when we were both hit by a car. See link. http://www.pbase.com/gearoidmuar/image/85095874 Mine which was aluminium and had an identical crash was to look at, un...

Re: LEJOG in 3 weeks - wondering if I'm fit enough?

You'll be fine. One piece of advice. Climb at your own pace, if it's slower than the others. and.. If you reach a point where your legs are dead in the morning, that evening immediately after cycling eat an entire pack of figrolls or Jaffa Cakes AND have extra starch that night. This really works. p...

Re: Var tyre lever

There is a trick which makes them unnecessary. And they break anyway. I've broken them. When you're putting the tyre back on, sweep all of the tyre that is on into the centre of the well. That slightly loosens the rest of the tyre which you can usually put on with your thumbs. This is one of those t...

Re: Knee Injuries - Patellar Tendinopathy and Cycling

Well I've not had it but I've had other injuries.

1.Do you push big gears?
2. How do you set your saddle height?
3. Do you stand sometimes when climbing
4. How old are you?
5. What do you weigh?
6.Do you do other sports?
7. How many miles per week do you cycle?
8. Do you use cleats?

Re: Anybody know a mail-order shop that sells cones?

SJSC had them.

God, Shimano make loads of cone variants? WHY??

About time they standardised. It cannot make economic sense and it would make maintenance a lot easier.

Re: How to Ride LE to JOG

I read a long article 15 or so years ago, brimming with statistics which quoted that. I cannot find it so I can't reproduce it, but its point was that it's a function of much more traffic. Most cyclists who are killed are hit by cars. I've noted down the years that the majority I hear of have indeed...

Anybody know a mail-order shop that sells cones?

Of the non-ice-cream variety? Need to replace cones in my main bike. Simple job to do but who sells them? One cone on rear axle is pitted. This, I read years ago, is due to galling. Galling is a type of natural welding which can take place and the cause is looseness, not tightness, believe it or not...

Re: How to Ride LE to JOG

A Roads are main roads with lots of traffic.

There is an international statistic which shows that per mile cycled, cyclists are 6 times as likely to be killed on a main road as on a minor road.

I avoid main roads where possible, as do my friends.

Re: How to Ride LE to JOG

Seven days.
124 miles a day on this terrain?
Shouldn't this be posted on the Cycling Torture Club's Website rather than on the CTC's website?

This is how NOT to do such a trip.

Here's a picture of the bike. http://picasaweb.google.com/golaoi/UntitledAlbum#5368801270883021538 To touristify it I used zip ties to hold on mudguards, used higher shorter stem with old bullhorn bars and bike shop put on carrier with adapter for seat-post and a little metal extension from a hole o...
