Lightweight touring - How much can you pack in the bags?

Lightweight touring / bikepacking is great for short tours and when you want to go off road along narrow lanes and across fields and rivers. But how much can you pack into those soft bags without the need for panniers. http://www.farawayvisions.com/whats-inside-bikepacking-bags/ http://i2.wp.com/www...

Re: Has Anyone Toured With a Guitar?

I had two young Canadians stay with me (Warmshowers). One had a ukelele and the other had a guitar (smaller size for travelling). Here they are playing in my back garden http://i0.wp.com/www.farawayvisions.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/20140603_113116.jpg?resize=1000%2C750

Re: South Downs Way on a touring bike ??

I rode the SDW on a hybrid (rigid fork) minimal kit. I hadn't a clue what the route was like before I got there, just liked the sound of it and I'd barely been riding a bike, having taken a break for 20 odd years. Any difficulties, I put down to my lack of fitness and ability rather than the bike.

Re: What is still made in UK ?

Last year I went to Bespoked, in Bristol where there are many of independent frame makers with businesses based in the UK (plenty from overseas too). I met the winner of best in show, a customer and lots of quirky bikes. http://www.farawayvisions.com/bespoked-handmade-bicycle-show-bristol/

Re: Bivvy Bag: Alpkit Hunka

The green one is like an army colour, Alpkit call this one kelp, and it certainly resembles the seaweed. It's excellent for camouflage and blending into the background. Looks dull in photos, but more suited to stealth/ wild camping. I ordered kelp then sent it back because it was dull. I like a bit ...

From Pogies to woolly knickers, tips for staying snug when c

A few years ago, when I took up cycling, I braved the winter weather a couple of times and got so cold, my snot froze. But as time went on, I learnt how to dress for the conditions and found that my weakest spots were my hands and feet. http://www.farawayvisions.com/how-to-stay-warm-when-cycling/

Re: morocco - sticks and stones...

Children will chase you, sometimes on foot and sometimes on their bikes, but no malice is intended. Ignore the constant cry for stylos. Be prepared for stones if you try and take photographs of women without permission. Being chased by dogs is the scariest, though 'chased' is what happened. I wasn't...

the Janapar Grant - for adventurous young cyclists

The Janapar Grant will provide equipment and mentoring for a young person to set out into the world on a bike. How often have you dreamed about travelling the world by by bike? If only I had a decent bike… People wouldn’t understand why… What would I tell my friends and family? I’m not sure I’d be f...

Re: Week-long tour in the W/N-W of Ireland. Top tips please!

I cycled the northwest, (Donegal) and have maps you can download and loads of information about the route and what you might see or do and also places to stay if you're not camping. I went in April and had good weather. The traffic was light as it was before the tourist season kicked in. Slieve Leag...

Re: Rum, Beer and Cigarettes - Cycling Castro's Cuba

Bike hire in Cuba is hard to find and very expensive, though you can find bikes for hire in some of the All Inclusive resorts. This is a bike rental place in Havana but didn't see any bikes for hire or anyone riding bikes they hadn't brought with them. Spare parts are almost impossible to find. http...
