Touring/Audax/Sporty/Club bike

Hi, It seems there is a bit of a "Holy Grail", that is in the space between a full touring bike and a road bike. Geometry, mudguard clearance, wider tyre sizes, fixings for rear rack etc. Even frame materials to an extent. I have a couple of decent touring bikes, and wouldn’t change them a...

Wheely thinking!

Hi, I am currently running Sputnik Rigida 40 hole/Deore XT rear wheels on my touring bike and sadly the rims are seriously wearing now (and that’s no complaint they have been utterly fantastic and done much more than I expected, for longer than I hoped, over rough routes...fully loaded - and that’s ...

Re: Handlebar bags

Hi, I have been deciding between the Topeak Tourguide and Ortlieb myself, as my old Karrimor Bardale now leaks so much I use it as a hanging basket liner. I have been pleased with other Ortlieb stuff, but the new Ortlieb bags just dont look very nice to me (the old ones I felt looked better) - I say...

Home Frame Welding !!

Hi, I was wondering if it were possible for me to weld a couple of brackets to a bike frame? This is an old MTB steel frame, I want to adapt it to carry a specific box for work/shopping....I realsise I could make up all sorts of clamps etc instead, and yes I realise it would make the frame less usef...

Re: IRELAND TOUR SUGGESTIONS?

Have you considered doing it the other way round. It might run counter to the prevailing winds but my trip when I get round to it would be the ferry to Larne or Belfast and then anticlockwise round the coast, taking in the Antrim coast and Malin Head and all the way down to Mizzen Head. :D .... No ...

Re: IRELAND TOUR SUGGESTIONS?

Hi, Hope you dont mind me jumping in or joining in here! I am too pondering a tour in Ireland. Probably ferry over (not sure which yet...checking that out at the moment, but from one of the Welsh ports after a train from London. Holyhead or Fishguard)....and catch train to Cork. Anyone sussed out th...

Re: Introductions - tell us about yourself

Hello Everyone! Been reading stuff on here for a few weeks now, signed up and thought it about time I say hello to you all. I am new here, but not to cycling or CTC having cycled regularly for most of my 50+ years. Thirty years ago I did quite a bit of touring (bike and camping gear) and then until ...
