Re: 26" 'fast' tyre recommendations?

I've bought some randonneur pro also for my Dawes One Down (earlier version of Sardar) and will fit on Friday as the Schwalbe Marathon XR are bombproof, never had a puncture, but not very comfortable.

Re: Specialized AWOL gravel grinder off road tourer

markjohnobrien, that's a lot of changes (and cost) for a new bike. Granted, you won't do them all at once but it'll bump the overall price up somewhat. Not really: I already have a stock of Giles Berthoud saddles; I already have 2 x marathon supreme tyres; I already have a stock of XT 9 speed rear ...

Re: Specialized AWOL gravel grinder off road tourer

Good to have a forum member who actually owns and rides an AWOl. Just a question on tyre pressures. Going up from 32c on say a Galaxy, to 42c should mean a lower tyre pressure will work and will provide a softer ride. Going up to 4.8" on my Moony ends up below 10psi! I ride 2.4" MTB tyres...

Re: Specialized AWOL gravel grinder off road tourer

markjohnobrien What clinched the deal for you? BB7 discs. Large tyre clearances. Good spec level - tubus racks. I could testride first. No Surly shops nearby to testride. Brixton Bikes did have some but long distance to travel and they didnt have the model(s) I was interested in available for test ...

Re: Specialized AWOL gravel grinder off road tourer

While I have too many bikes, 9 at last count, I have just bought an AWOL after reading all of this thread, researching the web, and having a small test ride. Bought at the nearest Specialized Concept store to get interest free credit and while the staff were friendly they were typical roadies and di...

Re: External Bottom Bracket Lifespans

My Pearson Compass touring bike has a hope stainless BB and it carries heavy loads (I'm 17.5 stone down from 20) with four panniers and has done 6000 miles so far without any problem hauling me about in the Chilterns (commuting and leisure); North Wales, North Yorkshire, Devon - all hilly - without ...

Re: Bargain Ortlieb back rollers

And I need to add that I still got exceptional bargains even with the postage- everything at least 50% off: Philips 60 lux dynamo front light for £33 - this is cheaper than a second hand model that went for £51 on eBay last week. Philips Safe Ride dynamo rear light at £11 2 x Shimano MTB triple chai...

Re: Bargain Ortlieb back rollers

Not sure how you get free postage as I always pay around £7. Rose do periodic offers with free postage for a weekend or a week etc but never continuously.

Re: Spa Titanium Frame

Thats a shame - discs would have been great on a Spa frame. Good luck with the rest of the work on the frames. One reason for the flex you experienced in the fork is that traditional (curved) touring forks cannot handle the stress, and flexing, that follows from disc brakes. All Roberts Roughstuff t...

Re: Spa Titanium Frame

531 Colin - thanks for all the useful information on the new frame. Still deciding whether to buy as I already have a Litespeed Blue Ridge which I bought off this forum in 2008 :D Are there any plans for a titanium frame with disc mounts as I am am sick of rim wear. I am aware that Lynskey; Van Nich...
