Re: UK Trains - Online bike reservations

Do not whatever you try and do try to use the 20th century tech of the phone if you value your sanity. The virgin call centre is an abomination for bikes. My advice is to stick to the 19th century solution of a pedal to the station. Combined with checking stuff in the station on a mobile, or on a t...

Re: Mudguards for Sonder Camino

Ages ago, I used to fit the largest tyres I could into the narrowest of frames... When I couldn't run the mudguard under the fork crown, I used to cut off the front of the mudguard and remount it so that the mudguard ended at the fork crown. This meant that rather than run the mudguard under the fo...

Re: Hydraulic rim brakes?

I'd thought of Condor (as used them before for hand built wheels) but Bikefix wasn't on the radar - good idea.

Re: Hydraulic rim brakes?

Can anyone recommend an excellent bike mechanic/ shop in London who has experience of working on these brakes - HS 66 drop bar specifically. I don't want to do any work myself as I'm exceptionally clumsy :( and these brakes are as rare as hens teeth.

Re: Compass Barlow Pass Tyres

I have tried Hypers and must be the lead naysayer on this board I thought that was me! But my dissatisfaction with them was lost in the praise. Haven't tried anything from Compass Pass, would be nervous of liking them too much and £50 tyres becoming the norm. I'm very impressed with the new Maratho...

Very nice: looks like a dynamo hub at the front; looks like Shimano; which one?

You can't go wrong with bar end levers.

Lumicycle do one for their upgraded 2017 lights - switch controls both bar mounted lights (if needed).

I agree- and the leather is much thicker.

Re: Gilles Berthoud saddles

As I've been selling bikes recently to reduce my fleet, I now have more unused saddles than bikes and have two boxed, unused, Berthoud saddles to sell: 1 x Marie Blanque (cork) - another is used on my Dawes Galaxy and very comfortable. 1x Solour - (cork). I also have 1 tan, lightly used for one ride...

Re: A really good weatherproof jacket

I absolutely love my Paramo Quito. It has just recently come out of the cupboard after its summer hibernation. It is such a pleasure to wear regardless of rain or shine. The waterproofness isnt like shells, you cant really tell how waterproof it is or isnt but you dont seem to get wet. If the rain ...

Shame it's broken as a lovely looking frame: always liked those colours.

Most important thing, though, is that you are ok.

Re: Karrimor Panniers any good?

Had some Karrimor panniers in the 90's and, frankly, they were dreadful compared to Ortlieb I've used for 17 years; Vaude for 5; and occasionally I've used Carradice Super C which are very good as well.

Not a fan I'm afraid.
