Re: Which Panniers Should I Buy?

I have Ortlieb and Vaude rear panniers; Vaude front; Ortlieb bar bag; and the quality of Ortlieb and Vaude is superb. I have an older Ortleib rear from 2000 and it's just starting to get tatty and with a small hole from lots of use. I prefer the Vaude catch/attachment mechanisms as they are more sec...

Re: pretty place to go for a nice ride outside of london

Why not get the Chiltern Line to Princes Risboro' and do the Phoenix Trail? An out and back off road ride following a disused railway. Thame's at the other end and plenty of lunch/snack choices. http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map/route/phoenix-trail-princes-risborough-to-thame Great choice- off roa...

Re: Schwalbe Marathon Alternatives

I think you will find just as many complaints about the Greenguard as the M plus. I used them for a short while and hated them. I now use the Supremes, but as said the sidewalls are thin. Just coming up to 8,000 kms on my Supremes and still going strong. Rode some nice red tropical dirt today, no ...

Re: Anyone tried Colour-Tech in Dartford?

As far as I know they were Roberts paint shop. Roberts told me that and did say I could deal with them directly myself instead of through Roberts. I had 3 frames resprayed, through Roberts about 3 to 4 years ago. The first one took months, not sure who to blame for that, the framer blamed the spray...

Re: Pedalling Dreams: The Raleigh Story, BBC4 Wed 2100

I noticed that it didn't cover the end of Sturmey Archer in Nottingham - slightly odd as the company was given prominence earlier in the doc. Pressure of time I suppose. Both the sale of sturmey archer and the closing of the Raleigh factory ( including the legendary designers and production at Rale...

It's a repeat thread but not a repeat programme - it's a new programme and even some of the Raleigh staff are interested and will be watching.

I've got three of these wheels (sari with LX) and they've been great - very good price and no issues at all.

Re: Bike lights ???

In answer to your previous question I will be riding in a mixture of areas so would need a light that is adaptable to different lighting ? In which case I would grab this quickly. https://www.rutlandcycling.com/335211/products/smart-lunar-60-front-and-1-2-watt-rear-bicycle-lights.aspx As a beginner...

Re: SICK OF IT - GEARS AND THINGS

Good point from Gloomyandy re 36 cassette.

Two of my bikes have been upgraded to 36 cassettes and it makes a hell of a difference when your feeling tired and hung over the next morning with two full panniers. One has 22/32/44 chainset and the other has 26/36/48.

The rest have 32 and 34's

Re: The Dawes Sardar: Britain's best ever bike?

Yes, a very nice bike as I had one from 2001 to last year when I sold it on this forum. Paint finish was lovely to look at, as I had mine respayed a few years ago, by Colourtech of Dartford, who painted all of ROBERTS bikes, when I had the bike refurbished by Roberts, but it was very fragile. Fantas...

Re: The Dawes Sardar: Britain's best ever bike?

I love my 1Down (use it as a winter bike), agree with all of the positive comments, and it's definitely a keeper and has lots of use,but it (or the Sardar) certainly wouldn't be Britains best ever bike (touring) although in top 3 or 4 as it's very, very, good. That honour is bestowed on the Raleigh ...
