Re: Rear wheel tight fit. Panda motor +9 speed. ICE recumbent

I'm wondering if it's possible to change the front triple because by my calculations, to achieve a top gear as before with 11t rear, 44t t front and 20inch wheel, gave a top gear of only 80inches, Now that the Shimano Megarange is installed, with a 14t , it would need a 56t chainring to achieve an 8...

Re: Rear wheel tight fit. Panda motor +9 speed. ICE recumbent

It's ok Hercule, I can't change it, 14t is the smallest on the Shimano Megarange.

Re: Rear wheel tight fit. Panda motor +9 speed. ICE recumbent

It's a freewheel, because I've just checked the 9 speed which was removed and it is a freewheel. Why do you ask? Maybe you can help me with a question about the replacement Megarange 7 speed.. I would like to change the smallest sprocket because it is currently giving too low a top gear. Can this be...

Re: Rear wheel tight fit. Panda motor +9 speed. ICE recumbent

Problem solved.

9 speed removed and replaced with 7 speed Shimano Megarange.

PERFECT.. With having a motor there isn't the same need for 9 speeds.

At long last. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

Cheers

Re: Rear wheel tight fit. Panda motor +9 speed. ICE recumbent

Thanks Hercule, that's more information to add to my library of useful tips. Fortunately a couple of cycle mechanics will be here later today to refit the wheel. I took the opportunity to change the inner tube to a Gaadi one while the wheel is out. I will broach the subject of a reduced number of sp...

Re: Rear wheel tight fit. Panda motor +9 speed. ICE recumbent

I've just fitted one of these Gaadi tubes to the rear wheel of the ICE recumbent trike. The wheel had been removed but I will need assistance to replace it. I was hoping I could replace it solo but it's impossible because the motor modification makes the wheel wider than the one that it replaced. Ha...

Raleigh Competition information required

Today I became the owner of a Raleigh Competition with the following frame number on the underside of the bottom bracket. WP2001454 Above the figure1 and at right angles to it is the letter S positioned so that it is almost touching the figure 1 and taking up the spaces in the gaps between the 0 and...

You say overlap, Bob. Does it not fit with the end faces against each other?

Re: Front jersey pockets

Not yet. She is still admiring it hanging up in the hall. I should be packing for our holiday tomorrow, I must ask her if she intends to take it. We are going to Fort William after all!,, Average rainfall ----- well above average I believe, but hopefully the midges won't have wakened up yet!

Re: Front jersey pockets

At last, today a parcel has arrived from Hawkshead containing a bright yellow rain jacket with two front pockets and an inside pocket. MBH is delighted with it.
I didn't think this topic would generate so much interest.

Thanks

Re: Rear wheel tight fit. Panda motor +9 speed. ICE recumbent

That reminds me of the Pashley Tri 1 upright trike that had a retrofitted motor fitted. Alongside the motor was a SA brake. Sorry can't say which, but very slim. I did manage to widen the front fork gap by about 1mm which made enough of a difference, but the operation was a tad dangerous because of ...

Re: Rear wheel tight fit. Panda motor +9 speed. ICE recumbent

Thanks very much. Changing the spacers has just been done to improve the freewheeling as there was a bit of drag. I am happy with the much freer movement, and will see if it remains so. The last spacers actually compressed over time slightly to create drag. The setting is really critical, so I think...

Rear wheel tight fit. Panda motor +9 speed. ICE recumbent

The 20inch rear wheel with a Panda electric motor and 9 speed on my wìfe's ICE ADVENTURE recumbent trike is a very tight fit and needs to be carefully fitted in the frame by entering the drive side first. It goes in, but my concern is being in the middle of nowhere with a puncture in the rear tyre! ...

If you were following my Peugeot bottle dynamo topic in Does Anybody Know, you may have seen it morphed into the above topic. For anyone interested in the photo of it, it's in that section.
