Re: Cyclist dies on Surrey 100
I am not sure an ECG will show up all potential problems, I had an ECG about fourteen hours before my heart attack two years ago, it showed nothing.

Re: Wonderfull saddle comfort
They just say Brookes and have done with it
I am currently using a "big ass" sprung job that came on one of my skip bikes, quite nice but not ridden far on it yet. I have also tried a selle royale sporty one that I recovered with leather from an old sofa, experimentation is all part of the fun.

Re: Rounded off allen screw?
I have had good results with hammering an appropriately sized Torx bit into chewed up allen bolts, then again I am a dab hand with a hammer

What do you use to tighten the screw on the multitool ?

Re: Help please, rear derailleur snapped, recommendations?
Just looked at the mechanisms in the spares box, Altus and Deore they both finish at the big allen bolt, I reckon you have snapped a derailleur hanger, probably available from the bike manufacturer.

Re: Wonderfull saddle comfort
The key thing with the inflatable bits is that there hardly needs to be any air, my prototype was an Aldi camping inflatable cushion wrapped in duct tape to maintain its motorbike seat shape, by the time I had let out enough air it looked almost flat, the putnams cushion has linked compartments (they are made for wheelchair users) and again does not need a lot of puff at all for the cushion effect to work, I reckon a contraption made of cycle inner tube constrained in a stout cover might just make us rich !

Neat idea with the neck cushion, on my motorcycle I have a sheepskin and a puttnams stadium cushion, 500 mile days are possible, on my hybrid/mtb I am trying a selle royal that I have recovered with some leather from an old sofa
not too pretty but comfortable

Re: Why non competitive cyclists are rude and unfriendly
Interesting thing this morning, my usual ride is a hybridized old MTB, a fairly serious looking bicycle with lights, guards, and panniers, Normally I ride empty pavements and cycle paths wherever possible, I dont often get greeted by other cyclists, this morning I took my Raleigh Medale dropped bar bike for a spin, as it is a more road oriented bike I stayed on the road, every cyclist I met greeted me, even when I was parked !
Still no lycra though.

Re: cones and bearings and other hub fun
I have just salvaged a spindle, cones and bearings from an old hub that looks just like that, there is no corrosion on the cones or bearings, I still have the hub too in a ruined wheel if needed.

Spray some GT85 on it and ride it. that is just surface rust, clean it off with a rag or wire wool, or post me the chain

Heads up Aldi track pump
Just bought myself a track pump from Aldi, for £3.99
Seems nice quality and works fine, grab them before they go.

Re: Traditional spoked wheels.
The cross spoke BMW wheels enable the use of tubeless tyres and are a lot stronger than their cast alloy counterparts, they are a mare to clean though.
Apparently they are built by a machine that tightens to a predetermined torque all of the spokes simultaneously.
