Cycling UK is not a legal person. It is just a name. Look at the links it talks about cyclists touring club. CUK is not list in company house nor the charity commission.

The brand resembles DAZ washing power, which is made by Procter & Gamble.
I think is a very misleading analogy, as Procter & Gamble make many different things (and probably many washing powders).

There is only one CTC, only one CUK.

CTC is a legal person, CUK is just a BRAND

AllRides wrote: 7 Aug 2024, 5:35pm Hi,

I was out on a ride recently and someone asked me to explain the relationship between Cycling UK and the local CTC. I was at a loss to explain simply and perhaps someone could point me at/share a simple explanation?

I joined Cycling UK but I’ve not ever had any contact with my local CTC. I know the CTC are affiliated (CyclingUK on their tops etc) though. I know funding goes from CyclingUK to the CTC in some way.

I’ve assumed that it works as follows:

You can join Cycling UK but never interact with the local club
You can join your local club but don’t become a Cycling UK member by default
You can join one and then the other but need to do so off your own bat.

I was a little surprised back when I joined that I wasn’t pointed to the local club (or auto-joined) but perhaps there’s some good reason around the structure of CyclingUK I don’t understand?
BTW You cant join "Cycling UK" CUK is a brand of Cyclists Touring Club https://register-of-charities.charityco ... ls/5026584 also https://find-and-update.company-informa ... y/00025185

Why cant poster on here take and post decent photographes of their bikes.

I have viewed many posts on this forum, and replies have often asked the original poster to supply a photograph.

Time and time again the photography is poor, out of focus or at the wrong angle.

Question

With the availability of smartphones, why are so many people incapable of taking a decent photograph?

Markus Stitz, who was the first person to cycle the world on a single-speed bike.

MY COMPLAINT TO THE BBC

inaccurate information

Web site stated that Markus Stitz, who was the first person to cycle the world on a single-speed bike.

That is untrue

and

both rode on a single gear.

Dear Mr Benstead,

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-y ... e-68204044

Many thanks for getting in touch. I am sorry you were unhappy with our coverage on this occasion. I’d also like to offer you my apologies for the delay in replying to you – we are currently dealing with a high volume of complaints.

I am replying to you in my capacity as a journalist in the newsroom who reviews complaints.

I understand your concern that the article states Mr Stitz was the first person to cycle on a single-speed bike around the world when you say this is untrue.

I have done some research and have since decided to remove this reference from the article.

I am sure it was added in good faith, but I have been unable to verify the information so have taken it out.

I’d like to thank you once again for taking the time to write to us and help us to improve our coverage.

We value your feedback and have shared it with senior managers.

Best wishes,

Cecilia

I don't see the problem.
It's about choice and context, and since this route involves stuff like gravel riding in groups with relatively inexperienced riders all of that adds up to a context where he feels a helmet is a fair choice. I'd guess if he takes a Vélib around Paris he wouldn't bother. Different contexts, different choices.

Ultimately the only good reason one needs to wear a helmet is one prefers on any given ride to wear a helmet. Different contexts can mean as little as "I just fancy wearing/not wearing it today".

Pete.
I think the BBC pressurised him?
