Re: Recession, what Recession?
Looking at the IFS report - Appendix Figure 1. Proportion of the 16-64 population that is economically inactive for different reason. The curves for long term sick, caring for family and retired all trend up together. I suppose in some cases a family member going long term sick may require other family members to leave work to give support. Thus, removing more than one person from employment.

Re: Athletes and Statins
Unfortunately, only a meta-analysis and the full text is behind a paywall. But at least someone is looking to confirm the efficacy.mjr wrote: ↑3 Nov 2022, 2:46pmDirect outcomes, as Bsteel seeks, are pretty difficult to determine at a personal level. We don't get two of you to try different approaches and compare. And at the population level, as with the negative affects you mention, it's all tangled up in "the onward march of time, subtle changes in diet, exercise, or sleep patterns" too... we can hope that those cancel out, but then the statin effect seems very modest indeed.Nearholmer wrote: ↑3 Nov 2022, 2:15pmWell, I have no idea whether they are doing anything useful or not, TBH. How would anyone, myself included, know?I'm glad if they work for you,
Indirect markers, such as cholesterol levels, we can measure. Then we have to rely on the lipid hypothesis, or some other theory for why statins should improve outcomes.

Re: Athletes and Statins
Another interesting paper looking at the other pathways, such as Coenzyne Q, affected by Statins whilst reducing LDL production. Also discusses the reduction of brain LDL. (Although I'm not sure that all Statins make it past the blood brain barrier? )

Re: Athletes and Statins
It may be a somewhat naive question. But given that the reason for taking Statins was to reduce the incidence of heart attack and stroke is there any published data showing how effective they have been at achieving those outcomes? Given the apparent increase in use amongst the population, should that not have lowered those numbers hugely.
As far as I can see the number of deaths from heart attacks continues to increase yearly.

I can't comment on the content as I've yet to watch it, but what I think is an independent review of the Rebellion Way has just popped up on You Tube. May be of use to anyone considering the route.

Re: 5 foot LED strip light mains
I think that replacing a fluorescent with an LED tube works fine if the instructions are followed and the matched parts provided used. The situation does become a little more complex if you replace an existing LED tube with just a new tube without knowing what changes, if any, were made to fit the original. As Cowsham explained ballasts may or may not have been removed and the fitting modified.

Re: 5 foot LED strip light mains
I was just looking at other tubes I had and they have voltage markings on one end, this one has no markings. Out of curiosity I've just removed the end caps. Both pins are linked at each end and then there is a single wire from each running to the power supply board. I'm glad this thread made me check as my intention had been to do the same as I had with a previous one and just solder a flying lead onto one end to use it as a lead light. So worth checking if the tube is a single ended or double ended design.

I was just checking with one I have here to use, and the diagram doesn't suggest a link.

Something in your picnic caused an insulin spike and dropped blood glucose ?Galactic wrote: ↑7 Oct 2022, 5:28pmWell that's the interesting thing - it was an easy ride at an easy pace, not even any particularly steep or long hills. And that after a week's easy touring (usually 60 to 90km every day, but not pushing myself to exhaustion or anything drastic). I doubt any reserves will have been seriously depleted by the tour, and if anything, my legs should have been in better than average condition.

Given the tax reliefs listed in the 2021 Budget which included NIC relief for a potential 5 years it sounds a good reason to relocate your business to a freeport.

Re: Investment Zones...
Are Investment Zones the same as Enterprise Zones and Freeports ?
If so, wouldn't that that create some interesting customs borders ?
Edited as I misread the thread title
