Unwanted seems an odd measure, that is unless you're monitoring your body composition and know you're definitely losing muscle not fat or water. What sort of feedback are you getting from your body, are you permanently hungry or suffering from reduced energy ?Jon in Sweden wrote: ↑6 Sep 2022, 6:47pm What kind of tricks do you guys have to avoid unwanted weight loss?

Re: The Rebellion Way (Norfolk)
Apart from, I couldn't spot any new signage and unless you knew it was shared access it appears to be for pedestrians. The new surface barely extends beyond stations and crossings so more targeted at walkers than cyclists. It seems a shame as being short it would be a nice ride for a mixed ability group.
A lot of it is still single file and would benefit from the hedges and brambles trimmed back as in places you're pushed right against the track side fencing.awavey wrote: ↑13 Aug 2022, 1:27pm but there were certainly bits where there wasnt much more room than for walking single file, so you add people on bikes to it and it all becomes abit congested, and as I said we went off season so it was quieter, Id imagine its horrendous at the moment, like most of the Broads is this time of year.
You'd hope that as Norfolk was the lead partner there would be some budget and requirement for them to publish something.

Re: Foot Position on Flat Pedals
I haven't read that one, it was published here, but I just get an error of the site down for maintenance.
https://journals.lww.com/acsm-msse/page ... ords=korff
However, PubMed have the abstract here.

I think I could get lost for days following the links to studies on crank lengths and joint specific power production.
I think I've seen comments that the forward cleat position may allow more recruitment of the calf muscle and plantar fascia giving a small boost to power output.

Re: Foot Position on Flat Pedals
This is a bit of an old paper that discusses the biomechanics of fore aft foot positioning.531colin wrote: ↑10 Aug 2022, 3:03pm A word of caution....moving your feet forward on the pedals loads your quads and spares your hamstrings. I got tired of sore quads and moved my saddle(s) back 10mm or so....moving the saddle back loads the hamstrings and spares the quads, so I was more or less back where I started in terms of relative loading on the different muscle groups.......I don't know why all this works like this, but it is so!

I came across it whilst looking at Catalyst pedals

In the end I decided that I wasn't curious enough to spend $149.

Re: Foot Position on Flat Pedals
Where or why did using the balls of the feet to pedal originate. It seems to have always been the accepted wisdom?
There are certainly more challenges to the idea now but none that seem to become mainstream. I'm not sure I've ever found a cleated shoe where the cleat can be moved as far back as mid-foot.

What does seem truly amazing is the ability of the brain to restructure itself after something as dramatic as a hemispherectomy.

Re: Foot sticking out after breaking leg; what issues to expect???
Nice to find out others suffer from being lopsided. I started by trying to work out why by the end of a ride my left shoulder seemed higher and I had more weight on that side of the bars. I think that was in part caused by my pelvis being rotated, once aware I've tried to straighten up which seems possible as long as I remember to check that I'm sitting square whilst riding. I'm hopeful it's just bad patterns that had been ingrained from past injuries,531colin wrote: ↑9 Aug 2022, 6:13pm Do you know if you hold the bike upright as you ride?
.....clue....although I am left eye dominant, when I ride I see the right side of the front wheel.....in other words, the bike is leaning to the left; I also make a bigger bum bone dent on the right side of the saddle.

Re: Foot sticking out after breaking leg; what issues to expect???
I wonder how much right foot pronation is the result of sitting for long periods of time with the foot twisted to rest on a vehicles accelerator pedal.Nearholmer wrote: ↑8 Aug 2022, 8:23pm I
(I have a feeling that we all might, to varying extents, turn one foot out more than the other. I know that my right foot has a very slight angle, and when tired I will occasionally clip the chainstay with my heel on that side, or in extremist get tangled-up with the crank arm.)

Re: Foot sticking out after breaking leg; what issues to expect???
Having had tibial surgery in the past, I felt much the same that my leg had repaired wonky and it pronated more than the other. It's not very bad and I've seen worse natural pronation. It's never been an issue for cycling with a cleated shoe although I tend to wear an orthotic on that side which helps. I'm now starting to think it's more of a foot and hip problem from the time in plaster, I think that time spent strengthening the foot and hip rotators along with the general leg rehab could have helped.

Re: Arthritis in my ankle joint
Whilst being of the same mind as Colin
I do find I struggle to maintain an arch on one foot when using cleated pedals so use an arch support. If I don't I find my knee tracks a little oddly, I assume due to the valgus collapsing along with the arch. This isn't as much of a problem on a large flat MTB pedal as I pedal more midfoot and suspect the larger platform allows my foot to maintain it's shape better. If I do shift to pedalling closer to the balls of the feet, again the foot collapses and effectively tries to pronate on the pedal.

Re: Fireproof battery storage box?
I've used ammunition boxes for similar projects in the past, they tend to be cheaper than toolboxes and made of thicker material. Amazon sell a few but I'm sure they're widely available new and used. Maybe add a smoke and heat detector locally to the storage ?

Re: Arthritis in my ankle joint
It might be worth taking a look at the foot biomechanics whilst pedaling in case the foot position is aggravating the ankle.

Re: Cleaning contacts when on tour
As above, I do wonder if what you are seeing is a poor mechanical or electrical connection to the plug or socket that gets temporarily reconnected when you go through the act of cleaning, or possibly something is being reset when you the plug is disconnected. But as I don't know the product or plug that's a guess.
