Cleaned out because it malfunctions or is there an instruction to clean it ?DGG1941 wrote: ↑23 Jul 2022, 5:35pm On occasion the plug which connects the controller to the main wiring loom on my Neodrive motor has had to be cleaned out with an aerosol contact cleaner from WD40 - just squirt the stuff into the plug and let dry.
I am going on 2 week tour and am looking for a way of addressing this issue, should it occur, without lugging a large aerosol can along. Thoughts appreciated!

Re: The Rebellion Way (Norfolk)
Unless they're hugely behind schedule I think it's fair to say that it is not really a path upgrade, more a cosmetic makeover for the stations. The new surfacing covers just the approaches to the stations, maybe 10% of the path length and there is still no signage for cyclists.mjr wrote: ↑22 Jul 2022, 10:10am I've not ridden the BVR this year so won't comment beyond observing that walkers get waymarking but cyclists do not and nothing in the report says it's an all-weather surface, despite the councillor talking about "all year round". After so many years, I have little confidence that councillors realise gravel isn't good cycling in a wet winter or spring.

Re: The Rebellion Way (Norfolk)
Looking at the EXPERIENCE website, the breakdown appears to be a total of €23.3m for the project over 6 regions ( 3 in England and 3 in France) . Assuming that was equally split that's €3.8m per region. From which Norfolk then spent €0.7 m of EU funding on the Bure valley path upgrade.mjr wrote: ↑20 Jul 2022, 7:28pmIt's an estimate based dividing the €16m for three routes mentioned above by three and rounding up.Nearholmer wrote: ↑20 Jul 2022, 7:25pm Is that €6M figure plucked from the air, or does it have a substantive basis?

Alongside the Rebellion Way, Cycling UK seem to have worked with Guy Kesteven to document a group of circular rides around the county

These include descriptions and GPX files. How much that cost and where the other money is being spent, I haven't seen documented.

Re: Can hi-vis clothing do harm?
I've noticed that movement, especially in the periphery of my vision, however small seems to draw attention. I assumed it was a primitive response to protect from being eaten by a sneaky predator. Given how many items within the field of view the brain is trying to act upon I assume some items become higher priority until you've decided what immediate action is required. Similarly, I wonder if seeing something very early is a benefit or whether it gets down prioritised in favour of focusing on more immediate information.tim-b wrote: ↑19 Jul 2022, 10:55am Hi
Your retina has a layer of rods and cones
Rods sense movement but neither "see" colour nor focus too well and work better in low light
Cones are better with colour and focus and prefer bright conditions
There are ~20x the number of rods than cones so the pedal reflector experiment (and cugel's socks) makes sense providing that the brain understands that "it's a cyclist"

Wouldn't this only work if they hold back obviously fresher produce from the shelves. Dynamically pricing the product based on it's age may be a better way to sway price conscious consumers.Jdsk wrote: ↑17 Jul 2022, 7:54pm NB... date.

Re: The Rebellion Way (Norfolk)
Personally I think that there are more resources available for planning routes on tarmac that will help to identify what to expect from a road segment before it's ridden. In my experience off-road routes tend to be a lot more variable, conditions change and rights of access, correctly or incorrectly, may have changed. Hopefully, these routes will allow travel with a higher level of confidence of the conditions to expect.Chris Jeggo wrote: ↑16 Jul 2022, 10:00am I have a copy of 'The CTC Route Guide to Cycling in Britain and Ireland' by Christa Gausden and Nick Crane (Penguin 1981). It describes a network of quiet road segments which can be strung together to create tours or long distance through routes. It is less idiosyncratic and gappy than the Sustrans NCN. CUK should be updating, extending and putting online that network. It should be encouraging cyclists on to the roads, not off them.
Which isn't saying that off-road should be the only focus but it does seem to fill a gap at the moment.

Thanks for the graphs and paper references.axel_knutt wrote: ↑12 Jul 2022, 11:28am Exercise is very good for you, in fact getting none at all is about as bad for you as smoking, but the benefits don't accrue without limit. People like to assume that if a bit of exercise is good, then more is better, but it isn't. There's a law of diminishing returns with the health benefits of exercise, and it only takes a relatively small amount to get most of the health benefit you're ever going to get.
Am I just missing something or is there no way to view the data in the papers by age ?

Apart from the Aortic screening as suggested by Johnathon what is the action to ensure you stay beneath the point of terminal damage ?Carlton green wrote: ↑12 Jul 2022, 6:31am It is important that people do not inadvertently exercise beyond what their body can sustain without terminal damage and that they understand that just because they believe themselves to be fit and in sound enough health for what they are doing doesn’t guarantee that they are.

Long write up here.
https://www.pannier.cc/journal/kent-dow ... antii-way/
"With the majority of the route sealed and tarmac roads, lanes and tracks – you could ride the Cantii Way on a road bike with decent-sized tyres (/a ‘hybrid’). That said, there are a couple of short chunky sections (King’s Wood springs to mind) which you’d likely be walking if you’re not too confident off-road, anyway (nothing wrong with that!) so it is advisable to stick to the fast-rolling sealed, rather than off-road mountain bike end of the spectrum when it comes to the right bike. Of course, you could ride the whole route on a mountain bike. But, the best bike would definitely be a hybrid or a gravel bike with 35-45c tyres."

I wonder if it's significant compared to the materials washed from the road during a heavy rain ?

Maybe another test with a new chain and two quick links so you can strip the manufacturer's grease from half the chain and leave the other half with grease.

I tried bone conduction headphones but was never sure that they were working as intended. It often sounded as if I was just listening to the audio leaking from around the pads.
Now I tend to use a single ear bud, but I only listen to speech not music.
