Re: Genesis Vagabond - Anybody got one ?

Thanks for your replies, I do appreciate you all taking time to pass on your thoughts.. I'm still unsure which disc brakes to get, along with brake levers. I have often worried about how close calipers can be to the spokes. I will update the post as I begin to build up the Vagabond.. I only have 9 ...

Re: Genesis Vagabond - Anybody got one ?

the more recent XT hubs have a (much fatter) aluminium axle and different bearings, different freehub body etc. These hubs got off to a sticky start because the first batch of freehub bodies was faulty. My tentative conclusion was that, by design, the freehub body ought have been stronger in some r...

Genesis Vagabond - Anybody got one ?

Hi, fellow cyclists !! In need of some advice on a build I hope to do over the coming months.. Have just ordered a Genesis Vagabond frameset in a small & will gradually build it up, when funds permit & our son isn't in need of money from the bank of mum & dad, for his travels around Euro...

Re: Are Carradice saddlebags out of fashion?

Love my Carradice bags and have used them for years, no nonsence, well made and local up the road from me also. Have picked up some bargain seconds items over the years, which in truth are hard to find the faults with.. Would be lost with my Super C saddlebag, for the commute to work.. Always amazes...

Re: Nice...

Anybody picked one of these up yet ?? Been struggling to find any in stock at local bike shops & would rather put my leg over one before deciding on a small or medium frame. Initially thought about a complete bike, but the frameset is seriously tempting me.. ( Nothing to do with the colour - hon...

Re: Tour North England : Ideas please

You must of course visit the beautiful Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland. If you wear yourself out there you could part train it back on the settle carlisle rail line, well worth it if you have never been on it. I think they are pretty good with bikes. I can recommend a chippy in settle :) I seco...

Re: North Coast 500 - Scotland???

Very helpful to read other people's comments.. I'll be doing this route in mid May, before the midges I hope!! Had initially planned about 7 days, but have got 12 days A/L, so I can enjoy it more and maybe do a bit of walking.. Just have to hope for good weather.. Have planned to drive the car up to...

Re: North Coast 500, Parking in Inverness

If you make the climb up to dunnet head there's a cafe just before you begin to climb up, they let you camp for free behind the building. There is a shower and basic facilities and of course a great cooked breakfast in the morning if you want. Now that's a very handy piece of advice steve.. Many th...

Re: Nice...

Really liking the Vagabond and it could be what I go for instead of a Fargo.. Have been looking at Surly ECR & Troll also.. Going to read some reviews and hopefully get to see these bikes in local stores, before making a choice.. The Genesis is looking the favourite though, mainly down to my bud...

Re: North Coast 500, Parking in Inverness

Thanks for your helpful suggestions nosmarbaj.. Depending on what time I arrive in Inverness with the car, I may look into booking a site or try to ride to Balnacra and rough camp there.. I should be OK for provisions & will have enough dried food, snacks & fluids to last me a couple of days...

North Coast 500, Parking in Inverness

Hello Everybody.. Hoping to do The North coast 500 in May & was wondering if anybody knows of a good free parking spot in Inverness ? Look's like the route starts from the Inverness castle area.. If anybody else has done the route & can pass on any good advice, camping, places of interest, D...

Re: Chair's statement

The more I read, the more disillusioned I'm becoming with the people making decisions. I will not be renewing my membership next year & just glad I didn't become a life member, when I had the choice too.. They talk about the CTC not losing it's heritage and credibility, by commenting how much th...

Re: DEMAND FOR A POLL OF THE WHOLE CLUB

Seems to be lots of infighting within the CTC & think I'll just stay away from here for a while & ride my bike more.
