I've not broken a QR spindle in 30 years!

Ny expensive is that solid axles are generally mild steel.

Re: Rust under stove enamel. What to do?

I would just leave the lovely original paint as is. I've got 2 1950's bikes, one developed filiform rusting about 30 years ago, and I am still riding it every day. Its just patina! Original paint finishes are almost impossible to reproduce. Many collectors wouldn't even touch a refinished frame. Lug...

Re: Why are bikes so expensive…

I've had no car for 5 years now, through direct choice.

Cant say I've missed it one bit! You'd be amazed what you can carry on a bike when you put your mind to it!

Why are bikes so expensive? Because retailers market aggressively and we are stupid enough to believe the hype!

Re: French (FFCT) Cycling Licence medical requirement

I should say Sports Doctors usually aren't that dear in France. Likely cheaper than the UK

Health checks are common in many activities over there.

They also use proper ECG equipment and its extremely accurate, occasionally frightening!

Re: French (FFCT) Cycling Licence medical requirement

Its a simple cardiac stress and recovery test.

Usually something like 60 squats in two minutes.

i raced in France in the late 90's as ab amateur. It was only equivalent £75 back then.

Cant see it being hugely more expensive now!!
