Re: Video evidence

Apart from the obvious fact that the risk of losing €30 didn't seem to deter the driver in this clip, I don't think its that he's not deterred so much as German drivers are not accustomed to the helmet camera brigade. He may have behaved differently if he knew there was a camera. I can't find any c...

That's £25 more than they get here. It doesn't say if there's points that accompany that.

Video evidence

This video popped up on YouTube today. Similar to the many hundreds of British road incidents that are published, except that this happened on the continent. An interesting observation by Martin Porter on twitter: "What is stunning is that the cyclist apparently knows that there will be a fine...

Re: Juries still think SMIDSY is a good excuse to kill cycli

Well it seems like the minister rejects the concept that motorists are getting off too lightly for killing other road users: http://road.cc/content/news/109987-minister-rejects-mps-call-scrap-causing-death-careless-driving-offence-due The question is, will scrapping the death by careless driving off...

CTC was monitoring and reporting the case on their road justice website.
They also have a petition which broadly covers the topics discussed:

This expresses my sentiment on the jury's verdict and the wider problem of driving to the conditions better than I could:

Re: What's the oddest thing you've seen out cycling?

The other day I saw a grey squirrel fall out of a tree. I don't know how odd that is, in the sense that it must happen from time to time A squirrels judgement has scope for improvement. I had a squirrel misjudge the strength of a branch when I was out for a walk and it plopped down in front of me. ...

Re: Juries still think SMIDSY is a good excuse to kill cycli

Thanks for the clarification. The reason why I asked was in the context of my earlier post - finding the cause rather than the person to blame. Of course that cause may be the person, or a more complex mix of human error, badly designed or faulty infrastructure , and natural event. In this case the ...

I wonder what research helmet makers have done if any, on the safety of helmet mounted cams. I have seen some helmets advertised that are "camera enabled".

Re: Garmin Virb placement

Try both. There are advantages and disadvantages to each method. Helmet mounted the camera always points where you look so you have more control over what you film, but you have to keep your head still and the footage quality is diminished if you look down or glance around too much. Bar mount always...

Re: Top Gear on bikes

But James May is a regular cyclist anyway and AFAIK he's never had a pop at cyclists (you may know better?)...so shouldn't really have a go at him for getting on a bike. I'm going to hazard a guess here. Both Clarkson and May have in the past published articles extolling the virtues of Dutch style ...
