Re: Recommend me some books.

Stephen Primrose-Smith has written the best books yet on bicycle touring. Clever guy and very funny. He pops in and out of here on occasion. You’ll love his work.

Re: Counterintuitive saddle adjustment idea

I think this is back to front. I was told on here that if you keep have to shuffle your bum back, you need to move your saddle forwards. And that to me makes sense, because your body is trying to settle into it’s natural placement. Do you perhaps mean rake it back? In other words, tilt the nose up. ...

Re: Super Glue

I always judge the quality by how well my fingers get stuck together.

I’m trying a flexible superglue at the moment on a split tyre. It works better than the brittle stuff (which all seem much of a muchness)

Greenhouse thermometer. Alcohol, so not perfect, but cheap and should suffice the needs of the OP. Size of a pack of chewing gum.

Re: Energy bars and energy fluids

I have recently tried ‘Tailwind’ through a friend who does long distance trail running. I used it on a recent 200km Audax and I was very impressed. So much so, I’m ditching my zero electrolyte tabs in favour of this stuff. Still not convinced by any of the ‘sports bars’ and the likes in favour of no...

If you haven’t pressed the button, consider Kenda Klondike tyres. Slow, but super grippy.

Jambo! Habari yako?

I am jealous. I spent some time darting in and out of Kenya. (Mombasa, Nairobi And Thika.) It’s a beautiful country full of wonderful people. Whoever goes with you will have a life time’s experience.

Re: New Route Planner

This is such an incredible resource. There is a new housing development in Radstock which has caused a few ‘real world’ issues on NCN 24 through the town. It has also meant the routing on Cycle.travel wasn’t perfect. I had been meaning to add this to Richard’s giant to do list, but I have just looke...

Re: cycling Cape Town area.

Food amazing. English widely spoken. No need to learn Afrikaans. Stunning scenery and some good options to pedal out along the garden route or up the west coast. Good bike shops and bike scene. Affordable and very high standard of accommodation depending on budget. Loads of stunning day trips if you...

Can’t answer directly, but bent/broken rotors make the best wind chimes.

Re: Carradice saddlebag sizes

I ended up with an unwanted, new Barley from another site for ‘not very much’. When you do go back to the idea, I find it best Velcro the pump to the wooden dowel at the top. Doesn’t take much room or fowl the rest of the bag’s contents. And it is quiet. No rattles for me thanks.

Re: So Harry is marrying Ms Merkel?

I am no Royal Family anorak, but I am very pleased to see that love has no boundaries in Harry’s world.

Any celebrity must be under extraordinary pressure to ‘do the right thing’ when you are in the limelight like they are. He has broken the mould so good for him.
