Re: Anyone Wearing Neck Warmers /Buff?

I work outside and neck warmers really add a bit of warmth. Good for winter rides. I have Buff, merino and a posh AUK one. That said, I’m still working and cycling in shorts. Not yesterday though: Whilst pruning a fig tree for a client, I snagged my shorts on a branch and left them behind up in the ...

Re: QR v Allen key skewers

4Nm is the measurement I as advised to use by the guy who built my front wheel. The Allen skewer still snapped though. £5.00 for the skewer. Lucky it didn’t break when belting it down a hill. :o any details of the skewer and the breakage? IIRC 4Nm is a little on the low side for an M5 threaded fast...

Re: QR v Allen key skewers

I had a cheap an Allen key skewer on my Audax bike which eventually snapped. I have gone back to Hope QRs partly through familiarity but also because I take the front wheel off all the time when going to distant Audax events.

That said, I like the idea of Allen key skewers for touring or commuting.

Re: 20mph Study – People who cycle regularly Online Survey

Repetition alert: The main road that cuts through our village has become a 20mph zone. The speeds have dropped down to 40mph. Some think that’s progress, but as said upththread, it is of no use as there is no enforcement. And meanwhile the powers that be are inventing a new ‘littering from a car’ l...

Re: Pannier rack and bags for kids bikes

Ebay do some very cheap, colourful double ones for under £15 the last time I looked. Made out of that woven plastic material so they won’t last long. Or Ortlieb front panniers?Welcome to borrow mine for a couple of weeks if you like. I’m next on one of GWR Audax early December or PM me otherwise.

Blimey. Reading these, I might just let my kids bunk any of these courses and forge their own path. They'll get put off cycling for life.

Re: Riding in the dark

Just done 18km in the dark to and from a local Sustrans meeting. Almost all the way on the NCN24 in a village called Wellow. Proper Somerset dark. No light pollution so this is when my B&M dynamo lights come into their own. Strava awarded me 14PBs! Maybe I was travelling through a black hole. Ba...

Re: plague of slugs

I borrowed a couple of chickens once to have a go at the slugs. They didnt touch them. It was this time of year so they were not tempted away from trying by lots of fresh green growth. My upthread joke aside, you aren’t far wrong. Given the choice, my birds eat snails in preference to slugs. When t...

Looking at it another way, slugs at Chez HC are recycled into chicken eggs.
