Re: How to lube suspension forks

Every few rides apply light oil (or motorcycle fork oil- it's cheaper than bicycle oil) to the stanchion, pump the fork a few times and wipe off the excess. it'll help flush out dirt that's gotten under the dust seal and keep the wiper seal supple. It'll still require periodic stripping, cleaning an...

Re: How do you...........?

I run the bulk into work in the car, carry the dirty stuff home each day. Sometimes I might take in another shirt on the bike, but I've developed a method for folding them that seems to preserve them pretty well.

Re: Philips SafeRide Mount with Centre Pulls?

These centre pull calipers are often handed, front or rear. The fronts usually have a longer drop so you may find that the front caliper has capacity to spare, so swapping them round might cure your problem. This worked last year when I fitted 700C hoops to my 1978 Elswick Hopper. Worth a careful lo...

Re: Pavement Parking

Something Mrs Dopestrong reminded me of. In our country the parking regulations have been de-criminialised, and the powers devolved from the Feds to the County Council. The CC in turn engage a company of parking wardens, but because the profit is best made in the town centres we never get any parkin...

I don't even use them for fuel. I buy my vegetable oil in 20 litre drums from Costco.

Re: Why Are You Not Wearling a Helmet?

She used to always wear her helmet because it was "part of the kit" and she loved wearing the kit. Same with my 3 year old. She adores her Peppa Pig cycle helmet and mitts, although at the moment its balance bike only or trailer. She sees Daddy in his kit and wan't to follow suit, althoug...

Re: Why Are You Not Wearling a Helmet?

I wear a lid and I've been cycling for 41 years (not continuously, I've had the odd break to eat and sleep) so I'm hardly a new cyclist. I'm very happy with my skills, ABC level 1, Mountain Bike Leader Level 5 - I just prefer to wear lids for my own reasons, and there's no other conclusion can be dr...

Re: Latest speeding excuse..

Call me old fashioned, but back in my day if you had a medical condition that meant you weren't in proper control of the car you would have your licence taken away.

Re: Pavement Parking

It should be like Japan. Over there, when you buy a car you have to have a certificate that you have off road parking for it. If you don't have such a permit then you're restricted to a teensy Kei car, or in some prefectures no car at all. It's a smaller more densely populated country than ours with...

Re: Cyclists against air pollution?

That's very flattering, but "chronic lack of dosh" is probably more accurate than saying I made an effort! I wouldn't have a vehicle at all, but Mrs Dopestrong is disabled so it's very useful for taking her out. Anyway, before I started gabbling, the point I was making is that diesel vehic...

Greetings

Howdy. Long time cyclist, multiple bike owner and qualified mountain bike leader and EMS cycle trainer. Never been a CTC member before - shame on me - but I have this week taken advantage of CTCs very kind half price membership offer for carers of disabled folk. Looking forward to hanging around and...

Re: Cyclists against air pollution?

My diesel car gets very little use, because in the main I cycle everywhere. The tailpipe emissions across 2000 annual mile motoring are far lower than those of a Prius I've a typical 10k. Then because I'm tight I run it on vegetable oil. Particulate emissions are so low that MOT testers have trouble...
