Re: A technology too far?

If one uses good quality compression less cables then they won't "stretch" either, so that's not a problem anyone need endure...not that the very occasional twiddle of an adjuster barrel is in any way a problem.

Re: Getting Honked at in London

Look on the bright side. Within a decade they'll either be legislated or priced off the roads of London.

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

So what? I didn't hear you complaining all the other times lies were told at the ballot box or in parliament. It seems you only see fit to complain about such things when the vote doesn't go your way.

Re: Benefits of upgrading an old(ish) Trek hybrid

A wheel rebuild isnt that pricy, and a new wheel of comparable quality isn't likely to be financially unviable. If the bike's otherwise good and you like it then I'd be inclined to get it done if it were mine. Perhaps a new wheel with a freewheel set up? Beyond that, decent tyres can make a world of...

Mrs Mrs Dopestrong worked in a school. I know the hi vis tabards are a given, gives a nice clear target for the idiot element to aim their cars at, but cycle helmets are a new one on me.

Re: Gouge in 631 steel frame

Fill with plumbers solder and carefully file it smooth, should withstand the heat of a powder coat oven. Thanks! Would that assume that this is just a cosmetic ding? I'd want to examine it closely to be more sure. It also depends on the frame material - some fine quality Reynolds or Columbus frames...

Re: A technology too far?

This e shifting is a technical marvel. I've tried it and its supernaturally efficient. It just ain't ma thing.i like cycling for the simplicity, and for an olde curmudgeon like me i bicycle a wonderful piece of mechanical purity. E shifting adds nothing to the experience for analogue me. However, if...

Re: Favourite smells

I'm always nostalgic about the smell of 2 stroke exhaust, as nasty as it is.

Tommy Girl (?) body spray - an ex girlfriend of mine used to wear it and if I ever catch a whiff it really triggers those memories.

My own farts in my own car. You can savour them properly without the Missus complaining.

Re: Big Bike revival ... yet more helmet normalising!

Well, Cycling UK's membership department don't answer the phone and don't return answerphone messages. This being the case I'm rather disinclined to do anything to help them at the moment. I phone IPMBA in America (having checked they're actually awake) and the phone answers in 2 rings. Ditto MIAS, ...

It is unconnected, but it undermines her credibility as a witness regarding such matters, so indirectly it's very relevant if anyone was thinking of prosecuting the Jook.

I'm laughing at all of them on both sides of the divide...with embarasment. The really believe the "facts" they're cherrypicking and selectively presenting, they really do.

Re: Pint pot price poser

I brew my own, Scruttocks Olde Shagnasty bitter, .50 Caliber Irish stout, and Olde Speckled Skinhead pilsner. Costs 30-35p a pint, and it's much better than anything a pub will sell me.
