Re: Should CTC join campaigns for 20mph?

Do you claim all the things that are called advantages are worth the life of one child. Is banning swings worth the life of one child? Is banning chewing-gum worth the life of one child? Is banning bicycles worth the life of one child? Even if you were right that 20mph limits would save lives (whic...

Re: Should CTC join campaigns for 20mph?

In that case, presumably you favour forcing people to live in bungalows, demolishing all buildings with stairs, since that would save a huge number of lives? If you remove from the road fatality stats the drivers who kill themselves, that's way more than half of them - so I guess you take the same ...

Re: Should CTC join campaigns for 20mph?

Rob Harris killed four cyclists by loosing control on ice he was a product of our removing responsibility from him, in my book if you crash YOU are at fault, in this case the £180 fine he got for having bald tyres was of cold comfort to the families of those killed but at least they can rest easy b...

Re: Should CTC join campaigns for 20mph?

ROSPA say that unless you're into high risk sport its the most dangerous thing that youre likely to do. You have misread their figures. According to RoSPA, the most dangerous thing you can do is stay at home: http://www.rospa.com/factsheets/accidents_overview.pdf Road fatalities: 3201 Fatalities in...

Re: Should CTC join campaigns for 20mph?

You have argued that it's safe to look at a sat nav whilst driving, now you appear to be arguing that it's not safe to look at your speedo whilst driving. You can't have it both ways Ben. This is *exactly* the polarisation Kwackers refers to above. It is neither safe nor dangerous to look at a spee...

Re: LEJoG video log

Can I ask what battery-life do you get from it, and on what batteries?

I keep being tempted, but battery-life is the one remaining question-mark.

Re: Should CTC join campaigns for 20mph?

Who are these people that can't judge their speed without staring at their speedo? Take thee to thy nearest SPECS zone and you'll find plenty of them, wandering about all over their lane (and then some). They're just excuses dreampt up by the Clarkson Crowd to try and "prove" that it's sa...

Re: Should CTC join campaigns for 20mph?

You actually see it a lot in SPECS-controlled zones, which is the only realistic way you could enforce 20mph zones. Personally I think this would make things more dangerous rather than safer, which is why I think we need to think about real-world effects before promoting an idea that sounds superfic...

I haven't yet startled anyone (at least, nobody has jumped or had a heart-attack at my feet!).

Re: Should CTC join campaigns for 20mph?

For the many that cycle at 12-15mph, they are likely to feel more at ease when being overtaken. Preferences vary, of course, but I'd rather have an alert driver looking at the road overtake me at 30mph than one who will be spending a great deal of time looking at their speedo[1] passing me at 20mph...

What about cyclists who have stopped? We'd need 0mph limits to take account of those.
