Re: Tap water tips

Bottled water is perhaps the most unnecessary curse of our age There's some pretty serious competition for that unenviable title, but the combination of environmental destruction and sheer pointlessness is hard to argue against. What a state we're in. I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my CLT-L09 ...

Refreshing Tour de France racers?
Nah, I believe they favoured the 'cafe raid' and bottles of red wine [emoji106]

Re: Tap water tips

More for when you're away from dense civilisation but last year I picked up an MSR Trailshot water filter and absolutely love it - being able to drink from literally any source is very liberating! Under £40, small, very lightweight and filters seem to last for ages. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com...

Re: Acera v Deore Triple

I like Octolink too, for what it's worth, just beware there's two versions.

Re: Acera v Deore Triple

Just to clarify (cuz it took me a minute!) m590 is Hollowtec II, not Octolink. Nothing wrong with what you said, just that you switched from one system to t'other mid-paragraph and it took me a moment to catch up [emoji6] Definitely agree that those 'Do not disassemble' caps are ripe for disassembli...

Re: Acera v Deore Triple

Do replacement chain rings need to be genuine Shimano? I never buy Shimano chain rings. I prefer TA. My own preference is for silver arms purely because my heels tend to scuff them occasionally and the marks show up less on silver. Other than that. I'd be okay with either. I'd second TA as being lo...

Re: Acera v Deore Triple

This is a bit of guesswork, but it looks like those might be heavy pressed steel rings, whereas the Deore outer at least is much lighter aluminium. There's probably not much difference in the arms themselves. Have to get myself to work so don't have time to check that, so please take it more as a su...

Re: Front low rider loading and threaded headsets?

Contrary to what others have experienced I find weight carried on the rear rack has a much greater effect on the steering than front low loaders. I'd agree with that (and the rest of your post) - above I was referring only to the effect of the load on the headset. I'm a trendy consumer. Just look a...

Re: Front low rider loading and threaded headsets?

I can't see the lowriders making a significant difference and in my admittedly limited mileage, but quite harsh, offroad touring experience with 1" threaded and a significant front load, it's been no issue. If it does continue to work loose, swapping your top locknut to one with a grubscrew sho...
