Re: Sold secure gold D lock

I don't have the link but it was a quick Google search. I'm too lazy to go beyond page 2 and most often page 1 so it should be easy to find. IIRC it's London cyclist or one of the magazine/commercial forum reviews where they use a retired, unnamed bike thief to test the locks. If it helps the site ...

Re: Sold secure gold D lock

I think it was the gold rated squire d lock that got opened in just over a minute. Then they upgraded it and it lasted 3 minutes. Not sure about it personally. I'm really wary when there's something that offers a certain level of performance but is about half the price of most of the competitor's p...

Re: Sold secure gold D lock

1.38kg is an increase on my 900 gram kryptonite evolution d lock but at least this one can't be opened with a bic pen! Did you miss out on their recall programme? They replaced my bic-pen special years ago with a brand new key operated lock free of charge. Yes I missed out and was quite startled to...

Sold secure gold D lock

Just ordered one of these for 17 pounds: http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Squire-Eiger-Compact-Shackle-U-Lock-Sold-Secure-Gold_75671.htm I need a decent lock because I'll be staying in 3 city centres next tour and can't guarantee a safe place for the bike. 1.38kg is an increase on my 900 gram kryptonite evol...

Re: Keeping feet properly warm

I use chemical footwarmers, 10 pairs for about a fiver.

I stick one on the outside of my cycling shoes above the toes and then put on overshoes or toewarmers over that.

When I feel the cold it is in my toes but this stops it.

It's a sad state of affairs when 1 person is in a race and they lose! :-)

Re: Seat post minimum insertion

So long as it clears the bottom of the top tube I'm happy, probably cutting things a bit fine but my giant fcr compact is a bit small and the seat had to go way up.

It's been fine for 14 years and I've steadily gained 2 stone in that time.

Re: Dilemma : Change bar-end shifters for STI or . . . .

If you take away the badge loyalty that can get a little heated, the main difference is the hoods. Try and get to at least hold a set of each and try and decide which feel more comfortable, though it'll be a few hundred miles before you really know. I prefer the last generation campag, I'm not sure...

Re: Pre-stretching gear cables?

With parallel strand gear housing, if it is to be used with a tight bend, I will usually cut it with the bend in place; this means the ends of the cut will be square, whereas if the housing is cut and then bent, the ends may no longer be properly square, because of the way the strands run in the ho...

Re: Pre-stretching gear cables?

many cables come pre-stretched. You can do it in situ, up to a point, by pushing the mech by hand whilst working the lever at the other end. Just hauling on the lever (against the mech stop screws) or the mech (against the lever ratchet) isn't such a smart idea. Often I think that the housing settl...

Pre-stretching gear cables?

Hi tourers Just about to replace the bar end shifters with some campag brifters and because I normally pre-stretch the brake cables I was wondering about the gear cables. Common sense says no, because the gear set up is more delicate and one doesn't pull on them hard like brakes. Does everyone else ...

Re: Dilemma : Change bar-end shifters for STI or . . . .

Thanks brucey and bryce for your comments, much appreciated. The main reason I'm leaning to campag shifters is because of bryce's post. The last set of shimano brifters I had were 105 10 speed double and front shifting was 1 big clunk. Secondly the Campag shifter's cabling all runs under the bar tap...

Re: Dilemma : Change bar-end shifters for STI or . . . .

That's really good to hear, thanks everyone for your comments around the whole peg/lever thing. So now it is a toss up between getting some Shimano Sora 3400 peg type sti levers or some Campag Veloce. This sounds really vain but I'd like all black levers if I can help it, all the components on this ...
