Re: Switching from clipless to flats, shoes

For approx' five years I used Shimano Saint MTB pedals and Grisport Dartmoor walking shoes - actually two pairs of shoes as I wear them literally ever day, I walk a lot and the shoes tend to last a good couple of years/pair. A perfect combination and the pins on the pedals didn't dig into, or ruin, ...

Re: Sturmey Archer AW; the thing that wouldn't die?

I have no doubt whatsoever that you will fix it....so I'm in with 'every chance' Those rusty parts should clean up OK and the springs and bearings can be replaced easily, and cheaply, enough (assuming that's allowed) Plus (and this is a big PLUS)...You want to repair it. Your personal 'I'm going to ...

Re: Card Payment only, No Cash

At the start of this pandemic I got to grips with ApplePay. I pay for everything now using my phone and unlike scanning a debit card there is no £45 limit. Every transaction readily available to view at any time. And that's just it isn't it, once you get used to (say) Apple Pay there is no turning ...

Re: Wind speed

My limit is don't go out on an exposed route if the forecast average windspeed is over 10 mph. If I stuck to that rule I would hardly ever ride. North east coast of Yorkshire, it's a rare day that the average wind speed is less than 10 mph. I tend to check 'XC Weather' They have their own wind spee...

Re: HMRC and Air BNB to collude

That perfectly describes a number of my friends and aquaintances. All self employed plumbers/heating engineers, they wear 'fiddling' like a badge of honour. The best bit is that they don't hide it, spouting off in the local merchant's about how much they're not declairing. It's not just 'talk' I kn...

Re: HMRC and Air BNB to collude

I don't have any sympathy for self employed tradesmen etc. who don't declare all their income then brag about how little or no income tax they pay. That perfectly describes a number of my friends and aquaintances. All self employed plumbers/heating engineers, they wear 'fiddling' like a badge of ho...

Re: Spa versus Van Nicholas titanium frames

I have two Van Nicholas bikes - I was dragged in by the beautiful 'V' in the fancy dropouts....yes, I am that shallow.

I notice that the latest Yukon doesn't have this feature. Forget it !!

Re: Bestest ever bicycle brakes... ?

My son's new mountain bike has the latest Shimano SLX (M7120) 'Four Pot' brakes and they are easily the most powerful bike brakes that I have ever tried. They are one finger/eye poppers. When I first rode it i thought that my son's pre ride mega warning was a bit OTT, but I'm glad that I was well pr...

Our Grandson Jack (now four) is just onto his second Ridgeback MX. They are not 'toys' but then again they are not cheap. He started on the MX14 at approx' two years old and is now on the MX16. https://www.ridgeback.co.uk/bikes?categories=Bikes~Kids We can't remember where the MX14 came from but the...

Re: Antisocial cyclists

I'm a keen walker. I live on the north east coast near to a cliff top trail known as 'The Cleveland Way' which I have walked many times. When you are up on the trail, miles from anywhere, approaching walkers nearly always say 'hello' and pass the time of day, it would be just weird to pass each othe...
